kontiuka Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) I flew a few one-on-ones, me in a Mustang vs an AI Bf-109. Even at the average level, the Bf-109 was very difficult to hit and seemed to behave like it was at the expert level with the typical boom and zoom tactics. In a 30-minute battle, I'd be lucky to score a hit. No, I'm not the greatest Mustang pilot but if I go up against an average AI Fw-190 or P-51D, I can kill them within a couple of minutes so there's definitely a discrepancy here. EDIT: Just tried it and even the expert Fw-190 is considerably easier to go up against than an average Bf-109. Edited May 18, 2015 by kontiuka
ZaltysZ Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 AI favors vertical maneuvering, and BF109 is the best climber of all 3, that is why it feels the hardest. Other than this, I think AI level settings has more to do with detection ranges than with its dogfighting skills. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
9.JG27 DavidRed Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 no, there is definitely a difference also in flying skills....try to fight a AI 109 on excellent skill level...thats quite fun.
Solty Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 @OP There are differences between those skill levels. Excellent 109 is a damn rocket ship. You are not going to catch it and it will outturn you within one 180 turn. I agree that 190 and 51 are easier to kill. But I think that is due to over performance in climb rate and due to that also in acceleration of the 109. I remember that Fw190D9 before the module was out to be playable, also was climbing like crazy and it was hard to keep up with it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]In 21st century there is only war and ponies. NakedSquirrel Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 In my last few fights with the AI aircraft, it seems like they try to fight at stall speed. Is anyone else noticing this behavior? The AI used to seem a little more diverse to me and much better at vertical fighting, but now it just prefers to fly as slow as possible for most of the fight. gavagai Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Sure, I've noticed that. Most of the AI maneuvering is between 300 and 200 km/h, where a human pilot would stall. kontiuka Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 ok, guys. But look at my original post. I'm saying an average AI Bf-109, the lowest possible skill level, is much harder than an excellent P-51 or Fw-190. I think something's amiss here.
Teapot Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 It makes sense in an oddish sort of way. Which fighter produced the most kills in WWII? Which fighter was flown by the highest scoring aces in WWII? Which fighter had the most aces flying it in WWII? So, if you average it out it makes sense that the "average" of the Bf109 AI is of a higher order than the rest :smartass: "A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."
