Hey Folks, new convert here.

Go summer sale!

Can anyone help straighten me out with dcs/gfx settings, etc.

5820k@ 4.6, single gtx 980 oc@1550mhz

Assetto corsa, elite dangerous i run both in the dk2 with near perfect results, with high settings and DSR or super sampling.

with DCS i have every EVERY setting on low, and i struggle to maintain judder free 75 fps. It drops as low as 68 fps.

is this the nature of the beast?

I am running Primary single monitor dk2, run the launcher and turn on the dk2 when loading. it auto detects and shuts off my monitor.

Seems to be the best setting for most games to have the rift as primary.

I have also tried extended mode, with monitor and dk2 active.

same results.

Is this normal fps/experience?

I have yet to leave the runway! just tweaking settings/learning the cockpit.

Can anyone that runs a single 980 and dk2 please comment on my experience? i think my system is pretty heavy duty, minus the single gpu only...SLI coming soon.

so you figure this is simply the engine/nature of the beast?

those of you using a beast cpu/980 overclocked are having similar frame rates?

Something is not right. Specs in my sig. I only run one of my GTX 970's with most settings on high. I get stutter and judder free FPS Consistently in the high 60's and 70's. CPU and GPU at stock speed

Yeah I just noticed you're running on low settings... Some bases with a lot of objects will cripple your frames pretty hard especially in missions, but still...

What did you use to OC? MSI afterburner? Can you check if your card is actually running on those frequencies you've set? There's also a power limit setting, so make sure it's all the way up so some performance-crippling feature is not kicking in. I would actually try it with default clocks as well. And in nvidia 3d settings, there's a adaptive power setting that you might want to set to "prefer maximum performance".

i assume your running without the dk2? that was the point of the thread

i am definitely @ 1550mhz, i run msi/riva and confirm my usage/power/etc real time

remember im talking about oculus rift dk2 here...take your 1080p and put one render in each eye...very hardware taxing. but in most recent titles my rig can do solid 75fps lock on med-high with some dsr here and there

is there any new of open beta testing for 2.0?

Running with dk2 and having great results old pm i had sent to a fellow dk2 user...

Same with me brother some judder on ground especially with huge airports and or big cities around.

In this thread a user by name of mustang provides essential lua edits that have allowed me to run high scenes and high visibility distance.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=107551&page=4

Go to a previous page his post number two has a great edit then couple pages further into that topic high provides a new high lua. With those I run 75 frames but we have to accept with current engine if you want any detail aka buildings and such frames will drop below 75. Pray dcs 2.0 fixes this.

I use sweetfx mainly just as a color enhancer I use no AA,fxaa with it.

I use to use mustangs cloud and shader mod but just disabled it and things look better in rift without it especially since this last patch now includes Peter p HDR mod.

Settings in game I have grass and clutter to zero

Scenes high

Visibility high

Shadows medium still experimenting probably keep them low since they draw incorrectly in the rift

Cockpit shadows off, tree shadows off

Water low

Tree draw distance is another biggee I have it at 2500 meters but might just settle at 1500

Cockpit display 512 not every frame

Have rift set as primary and run game with full screen I turn rift on when mission is loading.

Realize I have two 980 and good processor so you results may very. I don't use sli as found it do t work with rift in this game unless you force Afr2 sli setting but with that you get cloud flickering.

So with that I can fly multiplayer and single player stuff just fine. Is it always locked at 75? Nope but it is a compromise between some useful eye candy and performance. I. Perfectly combat effective with rift. My screen name is Crom

Any questions hit me up, and can't wait for dcs 2.0. Their is nothing that can compete to flying this sim in Vr except for the real thing. I see it giving you a tactical advantage wether it be ka50 or a10c. You feel and sense the terrain and able to realistically judge things allot better compared to a boring 2d screen

Also realize that dcs world does not work with dsr or downsampling with the rift, they disabled that a ways back for some reason.

amazing post! thank you

we have similar specs, I should be able to match your settings ish.

I will follow those posts to enhance my max vis..that is pretty important for immersion

So what other mods are you using?

just sweetfx? none of these: icon1.gif

1. DCS World environmental shaders mod (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php...)

2. Ground Texture Mod Version 3.0 ( http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php... )

3. DCS Building HD overhaul ( http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php...)

4. DCS World Cloud Shadow Shader Mod (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php...)

5. More Visibility (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php...)

6. Skin Mods(Su27 grey Cockpit) (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com...)

SLI will make things worse. At least in my experience.

DCS is currently bottlenecked by CPU performance bot GPU. Hopefully the shift to DX11 with DCS 2.0 for those of us with beefy hardware will give a nice fps boost.

I get a bit of judder in DK2 near airfields but goid and smooth once flying. 780ti here.

More visibility will crush your frames in the rift and honestly with the low res you won't beable to see those minute details 40 50 miles away anyway. Ya I use the desert terrain mods off and on and that same ground textures mod. If you need labels their is a few threads for rift specific mods in these forums. Aka bigger text adjustments for radios and such. But honestly the biggest thing that squared my frames away was mustangs edit in the terrain view I that post I linked above. Since your a 980 guy make sure you force msaa in nvidia control panel I bounce around from 4x and 8x and makes a huge visual difference in the rift.

So don't use in game aa as it doesn't work with rift either so force it in nvidia control panel. Also shadows to low as any higher and the shadows project incorrectly per eye same as cockpit shadows which is a bummer.

Yes I don't use sli as it just don't work for crap in dcs world with the rift. 3dvision that's a different story works great.

I can't remember the exact settings but make sure the tree/clutter radius stuff is also set pretty low. My DK2 runs a consistent 75+FPS with my GTX 760 with med visibility and high textures.

all good now, 75 fps locked with high- vis/scene/textures

however I cant see the HUD...

they are just solid blocks, not numbers. as if something is incorrect...maybe i broke some lua..?

Posted

haha fixed, oddball problem.

why my graphics.lua was missing #97 /font/ is a mystery.

i have not made any edits or mods to that...

Posted

Hey, sorry i didnt report. I fixed it with a repair.

As opposed to re-install.

not to worry, thank you

also fyi that mod manager is amazing, the function to compare before and after files has saved me twice now...

trying to mod the missing text so it actually shows in the dk2...not sure if possible.

Posted

just the main area text, like top right of the screen?

I did the mplayer chat text mod, but doubt it is the same.

or do i need to even bother with the alert text?

I can see it up high on the rift, and the perspective is way off and just not showing correctly.

Posted

Ya ive got that multiplayer chat text mod too its readable now but yes its at a high aspect inside the rift which for me is good. Doesnt interfere with the main view point and doesnt get in the way. its nice knowing what youve killed now via text and can read mission briefs in game on multiplayer. Now the other tweak for radio comms menu i have just changed the font size and works quite well.

there is also a clickable radio coms mod, but i have yet to investigate that.

the concept would work well with hotas/radio coms clickable/larger font

which font size did you use fr the one you posted?
