Reticuli Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Shows up fine under the controls screen. I can assign it any axis I want, but it does nothing in the sim itself. Is there some collective lock I need to disengage, now? Hover and altitude hold are not on. I can even show the Enter-Ctrl red square and that doesn't move no matter what I do with the physical axis. kingpinda Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) have you maybe setup controls in game mode instead of sim mode? these are 2 complete distinct profiles. in any case: Check in the ka-50 SIM (not arcade) profile under axis asign, that your throttle is bound to collective. Check this by clicking it again and pressing axis tune. Then in that window move your throttle to see if it moves. If it doesnt then your throttle might be malfunctioning. edit: there is no collective hold. well there is a collective brake but thats linked with the AP alt-hold i think. I never use the collective brake. i believe in the real KA-50 you hold the collective brake down and then you can move the collective. When released the collective stays fixed in place and sends the altitude data to the AP ALT-HOLD. The AFCS will then try to maintain that altitude baro/radar by pitching the blades slightly. It doesnt have much authorirty so you need to be at a steady altitude to begin with. Whenever auto-hover is selected the ALT-HOLD will be automatically engaged so i dont see a need to use the collective brake but I might be missing some important information. Reticuli Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 Yeah, I'd already checked all that. Should work, just doesn't for some reason. Doesn't matter what axis I map to collective, it doesn't work in the sim. And the throttle can be mapped to any other axis, and it will work within the sim. kingpinda Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 weird. and you see the throttle move in the axis tune panel? Also invert it ofcourse for realisms sake. Only thing I could think of is that you were playing Game mode while bound in Sim or vice versa. maybe just in case bind the throttle both in game profile and in sim profile?
Reticuli Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 Not game mode. Nothing seems to help. It shows up under tune just fine. X65f throttle can be mapped to any other axis and works in-sim. No other physical axis will work as collective, either. BS1 worked fine and BS2 worked fine before the update. And like I said, I just created this new map because of the new format DCS is apparently and annoyingly using now. Reticuli Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 You may try to delete the controls file and let DCS re-do it. In what folder will these control files be so I can delete them? Yurgon Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 In what folder will these control files be so I can delete them? They're located in your Saved Games folder: C:\Users\{Your Username}\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\ka-50 I'd simply rename the folder to ka-50-original or something like that so you have it as a backup. Next time you start DCS, the folder will be recreated with default settings in place. If that doesn't help, I'd try to... - check the keyboard-keys for collective (NUM+ and NUM- by default) - do these work? - disable all mods (if any) - repair DCS (Windows Start -> All programs -> Eagle Dynamics -> DCS World -> Repair DCS World) - Uninstall DCS World, delete or rename Saved Games\DCS, re-download and re-install DCS World and all your modules
Reticuli Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 I'd rather not uninstall/reinstall anything. I have solid state drives. I don't even like letting stuff update, which is why I hadn't done it for DCS in over a year. The keys for collective work fine. I'll try renaming that folder as you suggest some time. Thanks. Svend_Dellepude Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Unless you bought a veeery crappy SSD i wouldn't worry about lifetime caused by I/O's, spinning discs have a limit too you know and crappy spinning discs have a shorter lifespan than good ones. Anyway, what Yurgon said and make sure you don't have anything mapped in the axis department that you don't use. If you have multiple controllers f.ex. I always start with "clear category" for all controllers except for mouse and then map the axis' i need. cheers [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
Yurgon Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I'd rather not uninstall/reinstall anything. A common opinion. That's why I put the item to the bottom of the list. ;)

It did break the install to the point now that DCS doesn't even start. Repair only results in it saying something about installing runtimes but doesn't actually improve or change matters that I can tell. I guess I'll just have to either uninstall/reinstall, or perhaps wait for the next update and see if that fixes it. Repair only results in it saying something about installing runtimes but doesn't actually improve or change matters that I can tell. I guess I'll just have to either uninstall/reinstall, or perhaps wait for the next update and see if that fixes it. I just tried it: - renamed my ka-50 folder (in Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input) to ka-50-original - started DCS World - flew an Ka-50 Instant Action mission The mission loaded okay, but of course my controls were messed up. At this point, the ka-50 folder had not been re-created yet. As soon as I changed the axis settings and clicked "Save" (or "apply" or whatever), the folder was created. Thus I'm positive this way should work. If I were in your position, I'm pretty sure I'd uninstall DCS World, rename Saved Games\DCS, redownload and reinstall the latest version and start from scratch to make sure the installation is as clean as possible. Of course there's no guarantee it'll solve your original problem, but as I said, it's what I'd probably try. Edit: I just remembered you said something about not updating in a while. Depending on how old your version of DCS actually is, it wouldn't make much sense for me to test if it works for me as your version may behave completely different and may very well have known bugs that have been fixed in the meantime. Another reason to upgrade to the latest available version (which does have known bugs, but at least none that relate to Ka-50 collective as far as I'm aware ;)). :smilewink: Edited June 16, 2015 by Yurgon

Reticuli Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 (edited) I finally figured out a solution. I searched the DCS main folder for every Saitek and PPJoy file I could find, deleted all of them, and then in combination with renaming that other folder it finally created new default mappings. I tried a repair again in there somewhere, but I'm not sure that did anything. I can't get the zoom axis working yet and I haven't mapped A-10, Su-25, or the old prop aircraft included (that was the last thing I'd done last year before uploading the big thing onto AVSIM and no longer wanting to bother updating), but at least the long process of re-mapping appears to be working. I am getting some goofy behavior where the cockpit disappear button works very rapidly continuously, but I can't say that's DCS' fault.
