aus3620 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Recently one of my RAM sticks died - 4Gb DDR3-1600 PC3-12800. I have two of the four slots filled, ie 8Gb. I thought the replacement price was quite good. Wondering if it is worth upping the RAM to 16Gb. i7 2600 @ 3.4GHz GTX 660 Win 7/64 thx PS the other original stick died shortly after.
Devrim Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 My opinion; no, it's not worth to add extra 8 GB. I did, no difference for DCS. CHRISXTR3M3 Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 I'd say save and invest on a better processor (and maybe board of you have an old board) User Files for AV8-B, X55
HiJack Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 No use for more memory at the moment but we don't know what DCS World 2 will bring. Wait a bit before using your saved money.
BitMaster Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Overclock your CPU if you look for more speed. My 2600 does 4.8, no need for a "newer" i7 that can hardly match the Sandy Bridge cooling capacity. You may need a better cooler though.. 8GB might be ok for DCS, I prefer 16 or better in any machine, just my 2 cents Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
McBlemmen Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 I get low memory errors almost every single time i play , guaranteed if i play multiplayer , with 8GB ram. I plan on upgrading some time.
Hadwell Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) I use a 2600K 4.6GHz 8GB memory, never have memory problems... you're running too much stuff in the background... DCS fully loaded on 104th uses about(atm 2.6gb) 3GB of ram, so if you have 8GB ram, open up your task manager, and close anything you have to, to get your ram usage down below 4GB, also make sure your page file is a decent size. Devrim Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 If I have chance, I'd upgrade GFX card's memory. I don't know if GTX560 has that feature. I mean, GFX card mem is more important than system ram, to me. So, I agree with friends, save your money until DCS 2, and decide then...
