domini99 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 This chopper looks amazing and I really want it, But is it going to be worth it for multiplayer? How many servers allow you to fly the mi-8? I see the Huey at almost every server but I haven't actually seen the mi-8 active anywhere (or I just haven't looked good enough)
SilentGun Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 a lot of servers have the Mi-8 but not many people fly it because of its size and role the 159th is an amazing server for the Mi-8/UH-1H because it has a troop/IFV drop menu that allows you to use the transport choppers to there full potential. So I would say go for it, its my favorite chopper and its very fun to fly :) Link to my Imgur screenshots and motto http://imgur.com/a/Gt7dF One day in DCS... Vipers will fly along side Tomcats... Bugs with Superbugs, Tiffy's with Tornado's, Fulcrums with Flankers and Mirage with Rafales... :)The Future of DCS is a bright one:)
Destroyer37 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It's a fun bird to fly, I know of many servers that have it available. Specs:Fractal Design Define R5 Black, ASUS ROG Strix Z370-E, Intel Core i5-8600K Coffee Lake @ 5.1 GHz, MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti 11GB 352-Bit GDDR5X, Corsair H110i, G.Skill TridentZ 32GB (2x16GB), Samsung 960 Evo M.2 500GB SSD
domini99 Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Alright! I'll be getting this chopper as soon as I got some money again because this things looks aaaawesoome
domini99 Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 I wish there was a way to trail test a module before buying it, why has eagle dynamics not thought of that before?
Rogue Trooper Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 (edited) Most people fly the Huey because it is easy to learn as well as being agile. Agility wise it is good… not KA50 awesome… but it is good and has a lovely feeling of helicopter flight due to its hinged rotor. Turns are nice and tight and very intuitive. It is also a near complete module (if not complete) with door gunners and flexible forward firing 7.62mm Gatling guns. The Huey's maneuverability and wide defense capability allows it to get in closer to the enemy whilst maintain survivability. If the enemy is better defended with more sophisticated AA it will not last long. Its payload capacity is ok. The target sight is pretty. I personally find the Huey to have good knife fight capability. So it is obvious why most choose this chopper online. The Hip is faster but less agile and at the moment has no side or rear door gunners for defense. The Hip carries a nightmare forward fire capability for area suppression and once this big old girl gets her full gunners capability she will be truly superb. She will hopefully get her 12.7mm cannons for the door gunners. The PKV collimating sight in the HIP is a proper MIL calibrated reticule sight for accurately range finding your targets. The PKV requires some work to get right and it is accurate enough for what the Hip deals which does not need no between the eyes thousand yards accuracy. With the PKV you will start engagements at 3500 meters… accurately. The smallest horizontal stadia is your best friend in this chopper and will almost always put unguided rockets across a target area with enough accuracy. At the mo, no key bindings are available for the PKV collimating sight elevation, which for me, was a major oversight on Belsimtek part as I get worse results holding off target (must be from my 1000 yard target shooting days). Once finished, this big old girl will ride harder. I see the Huey at almost every server but I haven't actually seen the mi-8 active anywhere (or I just haven't looked good enough) 159th is all you need! They have it setup usually with Combined Arms with the copters reinforcing troops and troop weapons resupply with the Mi-8 and Huey or as assault weapons. Also: The 51st, 77th, 99th, 104th, Newb City, the Australian AEF 161st and the Virtual Aerobatic Server has Mi-8 at times. I purchased my Mi-8 for $14 on a really good sale about a year ago. I am just starting the learning process with her. No need to test a module for a $14 investment, how can I lose? Edited July 11, 2015 by DieHard [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
domini99 Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 I've gotten this Mi-8 a couple of days ago, and I'm already flying transport missions, which I love! Never thought this'd be so much fun.

Slazi Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 (edited) Best module for DCS so far if your into helicopters. Very detailed and difficult to master but so rewarding and a great bird to just fly about in:) Truth. Edit: One thing the Mi-8 should really excel at is resupply. Carrying troops, ammunition, cargo, weapons, and so on. I would love to see more missions where Mi-8 pilots can resupply bases. Edit 2: Jump in to our Steam group if you use want to find people to fly with. Edited July 22, 2015 by Slazi
