Cibit Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) My DCSW install is getting rather bloated and old. When I reinstalled my OS earlier this year I kept DCSW on a SSD and just fudged it to run without full instalation onto the new OS. SO I downloaded the new installer last night and thought it would be good to have a nice clean fresh copy. Can someone advise the best course for my modules. Can I drag the modules to the clean instal? or will DCSW installer search for files like an update or will I have to redownload all the modules from scratch. Will a repair remove any modified files in the instalation I am thinking specifically of cockpit mods I may have installed direct rather than with JSGME Oh and I also have an up to date Openbeta instal And can I have my JSGME mods folder installed in a different drive/directory Be nice to have some of your thoughts before I begin Cheers:) Edited July 19, 2015 by Cibit i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Art-J Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 The repair script checks for any changes made to default files and folders, replacing modified ones if it finds any. It is unable to detect any extra files and folders though, so If You have some (and most probably You do), they will stay where they are, affecting the game even after repair. I think mods folder can be located anywhere, as long as You open jsgme.ini file and type in correct folder paths. Don't know about the rest, 'cause I've never reinstalled DSCW yet. 1 i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
AtaliaA1 Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I would be more concerned with why you needed to reinstall the OS. I understand the desire to start clean with DCS if you installed mods for it, the OS is another story entirely. sense you have done the clean install now is a good time to use good PC practices and use JSMG if mods are your thing. If you have an extra SSD with enough room on it, after installing all of the updates to GPU and other drivers and tools that make your PC your PC, You may want to use Intel Migration tools to add a back up copy of the OS to the SSD. for future OS reinstalls. It makes my life so much easier when I have to reinstall the OS. Avoiding the need to update the OS and download all of the drivers and software I use. This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig. Cibit Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 I already have a new OS running well. Just want a fresh instal of DCSW without all the crap thats accumulated over the last 4 years:) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Just want a fresh instal of DCSW without all the crap thats accumulated over the last 4 years:) That's not my point. Why? was a "New OS." needed. I am aware you have it up and running now, as stated in your post. The relevance is to "Why?" this was needed. By the way, that i7 920 is a heck of a chip, it allowed us to pass on the other chips being offered by Intel and is still a good challenger to the new chips on the market now. I can't even imagine the amount of money this has saved us over the yrs. not having to update to their latest offerings. Edited July 19, 2015 by AtaliaA1 This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig. Cibit Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 Ahh sorry I see what you meant. I reinstalled Windows on a new ssd as the only other ssd I had was 60 gb. Dcsw was already on my small ssd and I just changed shortcuts to suit :) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

It is only when changing more hardware that it costs you an install. It goes by a point system that I can't seem to find at the moment. If you want to be safe go ahead and deactivate and reinstall if you wish. This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig.
