Idea - I think it would be helpful for new people to have a sort of target briefing - like a 'sattelite' image of the generic target types like train stations, mountain hide out, weapons factories (maybe here in forums, or a kneeboard file, or in the briefing screen). Could do a screen shot with some general targets or target types idetified (ie. train cars, parts and weapon storage buildings, commanders house, troop barracks).

 

There's allot of objects on the ground in DCS - be nice to have a little better idea of the specific targets or object types without making it too simple.... would also increase immersion and the overall experience.

 

I won't add detailed images for this reason but I will add a way to request more detailed info on an objective

Same as up top, requesting detailed intel report will be added in the new Skynet.

Images are too static for what I want to do.

 

Mirknir has taken the liberty to deploy spies in the surrounding areas (Shhh, TOP SECRET) These special agents are currently deployed in the various AOs. They have sophisticated surveillance equipment at their disposal such as GPS targeting systems (CA) UAV aerial reconnaissance vehicles. Laser targeting designation (CA). They can provide you with the most accurate view of the targets in the AO. They just can't risk getting discovered or being blown up by one of our on. Refer to the spies on the ground for detail on the targets in the various areas. ;)

Great tip on closest objective. I have not been using but I will try now to see mor info on remaining objects.

 

I am struggling with the AtC. Lots of spam. But maybe it's useful for air to air. F10 map I try it to us since it feels like cheating so I use Atc for closest airfield. I will ignore the Atc locations that I don't recognize as big airfields and use f10 as last resort.

 

Question - Is there ever a situation where enemy markers will show up on f10 map?

 

Question - I have been a-g focused so far practicing on undefended targets. Are all of these in the safe zone or are some in conflict zone? Is there a way to tell how difficult a defended target is? Trying to determine next step for a challenge. Further away undefended or a specific defended target.

 

Question - I have not done air to air yet. Is there the same undefended and defended air to air targets for these aircraft like f15 to practice radar and bvr in the safe zone?

Mirknir has enabled the Fog Of War feature which limits the F10 icons to show friendlies only. It gives you more of a challenge out there.

In the F10 Menu under [DESTROY] on the F1 option. You have a list between the undefended and the defended objectives. Refer to that menu for determining an area of difficulty of your sort.

There are several unarmed reconnaissance aircraft flying in the area. You will not be able to see them on the F10 map however some of our base observers have spotted some recon planes flying around our airspace. If you happen to spot one of those aircraft feel free to shoot it down. It's relaying information to the enemy.

 

 

Hmmmm CA = combined arms? That would be awesome. I can't wait to see what Mirkir has next.

 

Well, last time I tried in 1.2, Combined Arms was just opened doors to troll central :)

People would just control SAMs and fire on friendlies or put tanks on the runways before leaving....

 

During this experiment, I've basically seen more trolling than playing with Combined Arms so I removed it. :mad:

 

I am not sure yet if I will take the time to bring it back especially since I don't own it, my tests and developments are thus limited.

Is there any intel on reconaisance aircraft? Are these being communicated via ATC BRA calls? or arc they only visually identified and communicated?

 

We would need to perform a CAP around our airspace. During your combat air patrol you may encounter some aircraft conducting reconnaissance in our airspace. Use your IFF to determine if they are friendly or not.

Combat Log

 

Hello guys,

 

I am currently writing the combat log part of the new Open Conflict Skynet.

I was thinking of reducing the scope of the kill logs to reduce chat spam.

 

Something like this:

 

Player kills Player -> Everyone receives a notification

AI of coalition X kills a player of coalition Y -> Everyone receives a notification

Player of coalition X kills unit or static -> Only Coalition X receives a notification

 

What do you guys think about this?

Sounds good bud. How are you getting on with shutting that pesky awacs up. Really annoying when wasted as trying to bomb shit. Or if anyone has a fix I'm all ears

I sadly don't have control over awacs spam.

However, I think you can usually tune if off once you are familiar with your radio.

AWACS is a tricky:

* It spams but

* Without it, F15s kill everyone :)

* With it, su27s kill everyone. :)

* It can't be replaced by EWR as EWR can't be contacted by radio

 

I am waiting for ED to release maybe a bit more control flags for AWACS

After about 30 min cruising around the conflict zone I stumbled across some red smoke, but could not find anything in the area. And to make things more confusing, pairs of flares were shooting out of ground all over the area marked by the red smoke. Anyone else seen this, or is this something wrong on my end?

I had the same problem in the Ka-50, until I found out you can use RAlt and your normal radio button (so RAlt+/ or RAlt+#) to open your comms menu in flight.

 

The red smoke brackets the target areas (mostly like a triangle with the targets somewhere inside), but not making it too easy to find them. Look of the F10 map for the Infantry soldiers which are where the smoke comes from. They are bracketing the target areas for you to find them on the map, at least the stationary ones.

 

Be aware that the moving convoys cannot be marked this way and instead have to be found by using the help feature in the radio menu.

 

The particular mission you saw with flares popping up is the bomb defusal mission. There are several trucks full of explosives set around the city area there, which need to be found and either destroyed or disarmed by landing next to them and using the option in the radio menu. The flares are actually popping up from the position of the trucks, to make it easier to find them, especially if there are only a few left.

Thanks for the quick reply Anna. Seems odd that the KA-50 would have a comms issue with the map. Must be a module specific item. Will give your suggestions a try.

 

And thanks for the info on the flares. Never saw any trucks while investigating the area, but at least I know what to look for now. :)

Concerning NTTR, I don't own it and haven't tried it yet.

I like the concept of having new maps but I am still torn about how it will be handled in MP (from what I gathered).

 

So far, I think I may have to pay the map twice to play and host.

I've opened Open Conflict to donation to help me alleviate the cost of maintaining and updating the server so that may help.

 

However, my biggest concern is that only people that bought the map will be able to enter the server (meaning not new players)

A big part of hosting the server was to share my passion of DCS and provide a nice place for regulars as well as new players that comes in the game.

 

Anyways, NTTR is still in progress and I still have time to think about it.

 

Maybe ED will give me free stuff...

Maybe some days on NTTR, maybe some days on Georgia...

Maybe 2 servers...

Maybe I am just blind, but where might someone donate to help advance things along and help with the project? I have no idea what it takes to make all this happen, but one glance at the mission editor tells me that it's quite a lot. I would be happy to contribute how and where I can.

Question - does achieving the ground objectives effect any where else in the overall mission?

 

For example - if BLUE destroys Red Mountain Hideout is there a gameplay effect......like maybe certain RED AI units retreat due to fear / loss of the commander in the hide-out!

 

Is there a 'victory' condition or any sort of meta-progression in the mission at all? SKYNET.. are you listening??

In some cases yes, for example destroying the defences of the RED East Khashuri base spawns a retaliation convoy with alot of SAM and AAA, as well as quite a bit of armor. Failing to stop this convoy in time will result in it crushing the BLUE West Khashuri base.

Mirknir, have you looked at possibly setting up a Discord server for the Open Conflict server? My FSX/P3D group uses it and it is very simple. And the best part, its free. Here is a link to the software.

Yep, I know about discord but when I said a free VOIP, it was more an existing server free to use :)

 

I am not sure about running a VOIP server on top of the DCS server as it will 'steal' computer and network resources from Open Conflict.

 

I may revisit this when I can upgrade the server hardware and/or connection or when I have time to do performance tests.

Hey Mirknir, after applying the update that came out this weekend, your server does not show up in the list. Not to mention most other servers are not listed as before. Does the server need an update to the current version?

So yea, a DCS update is always a new experience for the server.

 

None of my DCS clients, whether it's my steam or web version, are updating right now :thumbup:

 

Even if I force an update, still says DCS 1.5.3.50487.22 is the last version
