Hi, guys.

I think I’m finally starting to have consistent success with the auto-bombing mode so I thought I’d share my technique. This isn’t based on real-world procedures but just what works for me.

Cockpit Preparation:

  • Set the pipper mode (a.k.a. function selector lever) to “bomb”
  • Set the bomb release selector switch to “auto”
  • Set the bomb sequence selector switch to “all”, “left”, or “right”
  • Mechanically uncage the bomb site
  • Adjust your vertical view position (if necessary) so that the bomb pipper appears in the HUD – RCtrl + RShift + Numpad 8 or Numpad 2

Approach:

  • Approach the target above 10,000 ft at an approximate 10 degree dive angle

Throttle, Brakes, and Trim:

  • Apply full throttle
  • At around 350 kts, deploy brakes (this will cause a sudden pitch up so trim down to compensate)
  • Allow speed to climb to 400 kts (temporarily close brakes if necessary)
  • If speed exceeds 400 kts, cut back throttle

Bombing Pipper:

  • Press the electric cage button
  • Maneuver the plane until the pipper is over your desired impact point and then release the electric cage button
  • Press and hold the bomb release button
  • Keep the pipper over the target (using trim if necessary) and maintain 400 kts at all times until release

Happy bombing! :)

EDIT: Removed the reference to radar.

EDIT 2: Added a pic of the traffic chaos from 2 bridges destroyed. :)

EDIT 3: Attached track

You can turn the radar off.

It's a gun ranging radar and plays no part in the bombing action.

Thanks for sharing your technique Kontiuka. This only further indicates how much I don't know yet about the Sabre  .

I will give this a try someday. Did it take you a lot of practice?

Thanks,

Ryan.

Ya, it took me a lot of practice but it was because I was experimenting a lot with altitudes, dive angles, speed, etc. Now that I have a procedure down, I have pretty consistent results. Hopefully, what I've written down can save some people a bit of time and frustration.

The 10 degree dive angle was a surprise.

Do you have a track, or have I read it wrong.

I would normally consider about 30 deg. as shallow.

Regards.

I can post a track. Between 10 and 20 anyways. But like I said, this is just my technique and what works for me. Not going by the book or anything. As I get closer to the target, the dive angle increases to closer to 30 or more as I keep the pipper on the target. Just the initial approach angle is around 10. Edited by kontiuka

OK. I've got it.

I'm keen to try peoples ideas of weapon delivery, so I will give it a go.

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. Today I got frustrated with the strike vanilla so both pickles were pff target under LABS. Grounds to even look at your technique.

Bit confused, how can you dive at a 10 degree angle with the pipper on the target and then when you get closer to the target increase the dive angle to 30 degree also with the pipper on the target, to me it sounds imposible. To me there would have to be a point where you are going to have to fly with the pipper off the target and beyond it to enable a 30 degree dive, or do I take it, its just a 30 degree dive.

He said approach at 10 degree , above 10K feet. You cant use CCIP aim off with his way as it is non parametric except for release airspeed.

You would be right if the line of sight (pilot's eye - gunsight pipper) was longitudinal to the plane's centerline (or flight path for that matter) but it isn't. It's slanted downwards (You can notice it when switching between guns, rockets and bombs modes of the sight - the pipper gets depressed). So if You "aim" this slanted line at the target and keep it there, the plane has to move along a curve, increasing the dive angle as You get closer to the target.

Just do a bombing run, save a track and then, while watching the replay, note the angle changes on the attitude indicator.
