I was clearing out some ancient data recently in preparation for a Windows 10 upgrade when I came across an ancient track (Flanker 2.0!) that was an example of the first pole technique for BVR missile attacks.

I seem to remember the F-pole technique being quite popular back in Flanker 2.0 / 2.5 days but I can barely find any references to it any more. Does anyone use this technique these days? If so, in general terms how do you use it?

As an aside, I can see it potentially being quite effective for use with the R-27ER since the missile is so fast compared to say an AIM-120.

Edited to add: my intention in posting this is not to create another R-27ER v AIM-120 thread :)

F-pole is basically a maneuver to reduce down range travel, you have to do it!!!

If i may, look at this...

Oh no, before it was easy. Red fires then do something or you'll be hit, and your missile will be trashed. Now when Red fires I'm going to start looking for Pink.
