Stevos758 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Had to take a break from work and have a little fun today. Started working on my Modular extension. Enjoy! Ill post more when I make some more parts. Facebook Ripp's Garage Tech LLC
FeistyLemur Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 That's pretty neat, will you be making more and selling them? or just for yourself?
debolestis Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Great work! Where did you buy DIN connectors? - Debolestis' Shapeways store - Debolestis' Facebook page - Suncom SFS and Talon restoration and mods - Cougar replacement gimbal
Mrgud Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I think you broke the record for the longest TM Warthog extension (2 meters)! ;) It looks professional!
Rogue Trooper Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 This on a Komodo base would get me where I gotta be! Is the machined Adapter Aluminium or Steel? What is the long main extension made of Aluminium pipe? Looks great. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!. Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.
xoxen Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Even though I already own an extension this one looks much better. Mine gives force to the thread while trying to tighten the extension and hold the stick straight. This solution look much more professional. You definitely should think about a higher production for the community. I would even start thinking about a new extension. Stevos758 Posted September 9, 2015 Author Posted September 9, 2015 I plan on making a few sets as soon as I get time. They will be 6061 Aluminum with aluminum pipe. The hole size for the pipes can be adjusted and will use sets screws to change the angle if desired. Pipes can be cut to desired extension lengths and I plan on making it modular so you can easily switch out to a Helo extension. for the connections I plan on buying the plain connections and making my own plastic pieces that are similar to the stock configuration. I will probably develop an adapter to use springs and hydraulic dampers with the base of the warthog or make my own. For now im gonna keep it simple and just get the basics perfected. Stevos758 Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 How do you bend the tube? Tube bender. Ill probably end up making something or outsource it. Facebook Ripp's Garage Tech LLC

Springs and dampers.... I'm listening! Do you have a design in the works? PS I ran a Mazak turning center at a previous job, nice work! I have a decent amount of experience with Autodesk Inventor. If you need something modeled in CAD I'd be more than happy to help.
Hansolo Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Really nice looking Steve  Cheers Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
Stevos758 Posted September 13, 2015 Author Posted September 13, 2015 Thanks! No designs yet, Still in my head. I am just thinking the direction I need to take this is build a stand alone modular base. Easily switchable from Helo to plane flight. I also want it to be compatible with current and future sticks. Right now its going to be slow going until I can experiment myself. I am thinking some adjustable rotary dampers and spring combo and a travel stop that is easy to remove/change strength. I think essentially some of the parts are beyond my 3 axis CNC capability and I can outsource. I was even thinking if possible a kick starter may get me the equipment and funding to get me where I need to be to make most of the components in house. Facebook Ripp's Garage Tech LLC
