I'm experiencing a strange phenomenon in game.

No matter how I change settings, put them to maximum, minimum, use 100 units or 1 on map, use rockets cluster bombs or missiles, fps are invariably locked at 48.

Same goes for changing views, being near cities, forests or airbases - always locked at 48 fps.

I have nvidia drivers v 355.98.

No vsync, no fps cap anywhere - nvidia control panel all left to default cept Power usage set to "prefer maximum power". Also no streaming from my gpu, no antiviruses nor other progs running

Any thoughts?

thx, rgrds

Yes, I think you are capping your FPS somewhere. Have you capped them in game or something? Are they capped in the non Beta DCS exe? I would reinstall the whole Beta if it continues, including the old Beta that you updated from. I had to do a full reinstall of the Beta including the old Beta because of a few problems.

Yes, other games are just fine for me too. Could be something buried deep in DCS cfg files, although I went through all of them, altered the params which defined "max fps" (there were two or three in different files, set to 60, I set them to 120). But, in-game fps throughput is still locked at 48.

It may not be the case, but 48 is a base-12 number, like 60 - my guess would be that there is some peculiar interaction between the video drivers and the DCS beta that results in an fps lock.

@San Patricio - being locked at 60, u may also as well check if v-sync is enabled at some level

Edit:

Folks, I made it work!!

After going through all the config files in DCS folder, I remembered about the "saved games" location..

Went there and inside it there was a line with "maxframes = 45".

Changed it to 120 and bam, DCS world running @120fps!

Location is : \\user\saved games\DCS\autoexec.cfg.

Hope u can fix it too.

I told you you had it capped in the game somewhere as soon as you posted.

Hmmm. . . . I can't find an autoexec.cfg file in the saved game directory for either DCS or the Open Beta. There are some .cfg files if the Config subdirectory of the saved game location as well as in the main install, but I can't seem to find this file. This is an installation over an existing open beta install.

You should check for the file with the same name inside your DCS world folder \config.

If missing, try to look for the other relevant config files: "graphic.cfg" and "graphic.lua"

The string you are looking for is "maxfps"

Inside this folder, there is also a .txt file explaining how to perform changes to settings manually by altering the config files.

@joebloggs - yep, it really looked like capping, yet it's something kinda strange, since I never cap my games fps, so it must be something that DCS installation programs do on their own.. No idea on which basis they do it though.

Neither of my main installs (beta or main branch) has the graphic.cfg. Instead, they have the .lua file an a readme that says: "Old graphics.cfg is gone and replaced with graphics.lua. However, please, do not edit this file directly. Otherwise you'll lose your changes after each update."

I tried following the instructions to create an autoexec.cfg capping fps at 120 (as an experiment) and then placed it in the config directory of the saved game file for the beta (as they suggest). Still capped at 60. Could someone post a working autoexec.cfg so I can see if I'm doing it wrong?

it's supposed to be autoexec.lua and you have to make it yourself.

does anybody have an example of a working autoexec.lua file ... that they would be willing to share, I have tried unsuccessfully to copy the the example in the graphics readme file and still have frame rates locked at 50fps

cheers
