So far, universal FPS killers (except on high end GPUs - 980 class and above) are

 

1) Tree shadows

2) Civ traffic

3) Depth of Field (only relevant in external view)

 

And 2GB VRAM is REQUIRED ... I would say GTX 770 2GB class and similar is realistic minimum power required for decent experience in 1080p or 1200p (everything on HIGH except civ traffic, running no tree shadows mod - until we get back option to switch them off :D ), especially if using track IR where panning smoothness begins at 60 FPS+. And with Nevada map, that 2GB VRAM would probably be a serious bottleneck.

 

This is my personal experience with 1.5 (I5 @ 4.4, GTX770 2GB) and experience of lot of the other people with similarly powered systems ...

It's a mod that overwrites the current tree model to models without shadows. Mustang created it.
