Nealius Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I'm looking to build a simple mission with a convoy on a mountain road, but I'm having trouble finding any roads that aren't in a valley; I want something literally on the side of a mountain. Alas, scouring the map at zoom levels high enough to see roads takes me hours and I still haven't found anything. Would anyone happen to know a grid area where they've seen some mountain roads?
Grimes Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I think the two mountain passes that go from Georgia to Russia have sections where the road isn't quite on the valley floor. Just place a group in South Ossetia with a route into Russia and another group in Tbilisi with a route into Russia and you will get an idea of some of the paths they take. Can't give exact grids at the moment. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Blooze Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 The best I could find was a road on the side of a hill at a higher elevation than the village. Maybe that will work. Screen attached with coords at bottom. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Aginor Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 There are better ones. Somewhere near the russian border there are some really cool mountain roads IIRC, try flying on a straight line from Senaki to Nalchik and look down when you fly over a valley. I can also take a look when I am home, I once built a mission like that, and there was such a street. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
Nealius Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 Thanks all. Looks like I may have to do recon flying.
IonIan11 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 If you want I can do some low level flying in my Hawk, see if I can find anything (need an excuse to try out my new R9 390 that just came in the mail anyway):smilewink:. Just to be clear, you want a road partway up a mountain, right? Does it matter if it climbs the mountain, or should it be parallel to the ridge? Are switchbacks okay? Let me know; I'll see what I can do. Sent from my Computer using the Internet
Bushmanni Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 There are mountain side roads north of Inguri dam and in the valley South of Vladikavkaz. DCS Finland: Suomalainen DCS yhteisö -- Finnish DCS community -------------------------------------------------- SF Squadron
lokodehortaleza Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Look for the road leading to the Roki Tunnel, connecting Georgia with Russia. From Gori (Georgia) go north, through Tskhinvali, then right at Didi Gupta. This was the historical invasion route in the 2008 Russo-Georgian war.
