Wizard1393 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 As the title says, is it possible to have only the beta installed? Using non-steam version. The fact that the beta is so nice and beautiful makes me think I probably will not ever start up 1.2 again. I need to save disk space on my SSD. Can I safely uninstall DCS World 1.2? winz Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 You can uninstall DCS World 1.2 and the beta will work fine without it, but you'll have to reinstall it once the 1.5 is pushed from beta into the stable version. If you want to save space on SDD then just copy the stable 1.2 version onto your mechanical disc. The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3

QuiGon Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) You can uninstall DCS World 1.2 and the beta will work fine without it,... True ... but you'll have to reinstall it once the 1.5 is pushed from beta into the stable version. Not true. I also see no reason why I should have both versions installed, so I only have the beta installed for almost 2 years now and it works exactly as the stable version. When 1.5 comes out of beta, the beta installation will just update to the same build as the stable version. It happened pretty often in the past, that the stable version and the beta version were the same. Blooze Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I have only the beta and it works fine. HERE are instructions for switching between one and the other without having 2 installations. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

jcbak Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 In the past, not everyone installed/used the Open Beta. More folks are using it now because of the new software features. Prior to 1.5, the majority of the MP servers were using the stable version when there was an update to the OB....with some exceptions. My question is this.....if you are only planning to use the OB version, what happens after 2.0 is released to the stable version? If past practice indicates future behavior, won't most folks stay with the stable version to avoid the bugs that naturally come with a beta......which means that those with only the OB will have limited access to MP servers until the Beta moves to the stable version. I'm sure I haven't explained this well...... Blooze Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) If a person only has the beta installed (DCS World OpenBeta) and 2.0 (DCS World) becomes available or 1.5 goes gold and the beta is no longer needed, all one has to do is change the openbeta (DCS World OpenBeta) to the full install using command prompt entries (Instructions Here) and the single installation will become the full installation (DCS World), update as usual and the main DCS World MP server list will be available.
