Hi,

if you mean the lights on L/G legs, these are downlock indicators -

landing gear down and locked - lights come on.To switch the lights off, raise the gear...easy !

So I know how it is hid off but I meant Turns on and off the light on the chassis when the L39 is a taxi

Sorry to jump in on this tread but as we are doing lights.......

I cant find the switch to illuminate the instruments.

Is there one or is it just cockpit illumination?

Position lights then.

One switch controls the intensity, the other controls the mode (off, flashing, steady)

THIS IS THE PANEL TO SIAL NAVIGATION.

BUT THIS IS NOT TO SWITCH OFF and ON LIGHT CHASSIS :(

Oh THESE. Alright, they're supposed to turn off when the position light switch is in off position, but they're lit all the time. Therefore it's a bug and I'm going to report it. Right now, you can only turn off the whole circuit...

and of this mistake I meant thanks for reporting

Are you sure, checking the external gear lamp seems part the normal EXTERNAL inspection ?

From T.O. 1T-L39C-1, Aero-L-39-Flight-Manual

PRE-FLIGHT CHECKS

The exterior inspection procedures are based on the assumption that maintenance personnel have completed all

pre-flight requirements specified in the appropriate technical publications. The pilot need not, therefore, repeat the same inspection except for certain items require in the interest of safety. · ·

EXTERIOR INSPECTION (figure 2-I)

Fuselage RH side (area 2)

1. Canopy -Condition

2. Air intake -Clear

Check the air intake with special attention to foreign objects.

Inner skin without damage.

3. Temperature probe -Condition

4. Speed brakes - Retracted and condition

5. IFF antenna -Condition

6. Right main gear - Check strut, tire, brake assembly and gear down light

I assumed it was part of the 'down and locked' system i.e. a mechanical lock that operated a switch of some kind and that post #2 is correct?

Should be page 114

LANDING GEAR DOWN LIGHTS

A white "landing gear down" light is mounted on each

landing gear strut. The lights are automatically switched

on, by a terminal switch, when the landing gear is extended,

provided that the navigation light switch is not in

OFF position. The circuit is protected by "NAV. LIGHTS/

HAND LAMP" CJB on the Aft CB/Switch Panel.

I know what you're getting at but in neither manual (English or Czech) it says they're supposed to be ON during the inspection. Czech manual just says "stav", meaning "condition". Same for the landing and collision lights and million other things. Just "condition".

@GeorgeLKMT Thanks, I missed that detail on page 1-114.

I guess the exterior 'gear down light' check is just a check for damage, security, etc. in the same way the landing/taxi light checks are.
