Hi

I am interested in changing from an X-52 Pro to a TM Warthog.

However the lack of a rudder on the stick is an issue as i'd need to then fork out for rudder pedals which is an expense i can't afford.

Does the supplied software allow me to reprogram buttons using some kind of shift function on the HOTAS to act as a rudder in place of pedals?

Thanks

Yes it does.

You can program virtual axis to buttons, replace, swap axis and change behaviour with button presses.

Better still, I bet you could mod your old X-52 into a set of rudder pedals. I'm sure someone here would have the know how.

You can also get these http://www.dealsmachine.com/best_162959.html?currency=AUD&gclid=CjwKEAiAvPGxBRCH3YCgpdbCtmYSJABqHRVwNbXhKic7I3wAgb_51jacKpvv7-TusMfwz6k4oj2grxoCklTw_wcB for around $10USD. They aren't analog, but I would let your feet control the rudders.

Well my wife ordered me the Warthog Hotas and it arrived yesterday. Sadly I can't open until Xmas Day.

I've been using the X-52 Pro for the last few years so having no rudder twist is going to take some getting used to until I can get hold of pedals.

Do you guys have any recommendation for a switch or button to use on the Warthog as a rudder(I assume it has a shift options like the Saitek if I need to) as a rudder controller until then?

Thanks

P.S Are they still making the Warthog Hotas currently or are all the one's like mine stock that's still around from a discontinued line?

Thanks

I would think you could program any button on the stick or throttle to get you by, also the throttle has a slider axis as well, though might be somewhat cumbersome to use practical as a rudder.

In the meantime you can download the TARGET manual from here:

http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_US/products/target

You can be reading up on it and see if using that software for programming the Warthog might interest you as well.

Nice Christmas present by the way!!

Ok Saitek Pro Flight Pedals ordered. I appreciate i'll be suing different software for the rudder and Hotas, but there won't be any conflicts right??

Does anyone else use the Warthog Hotas and Saitek pedals?

Yep no problem at all.

I do not use the Saitek software though, just assign them and adjust curves in game.

I also use the Warthog and Saitek pedals. No problems with that.

Like dburne I don't use the Saitek software, it's not really needed.

However, I very much recommend removing the centre detent. Makes a huge difference in precision around the middle.

There's a guide her:

Edit: It seems that the pictures have since disappeared from the guide, but fortunately a guy has made a video guide here:

Remove the pedal center detent is useful for helicopter pilotage, but for conventional planes have the penalty that you can't leave his foot over pedal all time, because now you dont have feel of the center position, and the weigh of foot can turn the rudder slight for one side and result in "crabbing" fly. :)

I know what you mean.

But the spring system of the Saitek pedals is two pieces of plastic, one for putting spring force on each side.

So even when you remove the detent, there is a sort of center position that you can clearly feel.

It is just much more smooth than the detent.

So never had problems using it for conventional planes. :)

Do I have to use any of the Saitek or Thrustmaster software with the Rudder Pedals and Warthog Hotas? I believe the Hotas is pretty much detected in the sim and I just assign the rudder function to the pedals in the options.

Is that right? And if I don't need their software do I need their drivers?

Thanks

I have the Saitek Combat Pedals along with the Warthog, and I do not use nor have installed any of the Saitek software. They are recognized and function just fine in DCS controller setup menu.

OK thanks Dburne. Do you have trackir? If so how are you centering your view?

Yes I do, I have both center and pause mapped to my Warthog throttle hat - forward and aft.

Are you assigning a function within the DCS options that matches the keystroke in the TIR software for that?

I thought that DCS picked up the hotas and therefore you could only use the hotas controls to mirror the real life function unless you used the target software and changed themif that makes sense?

That is correct for the A-10C and the Warthog.

I am currently using it in the KA-50, so I am just assigning the buttons how I want for the KA-50. I assigned the two throttle hat buttons for TIR within the TIR software.

When I get around to learning and flying the A-10C , I will go with the default plug and play for it - and likely assign my TIR center and pause to something else, like some unused key commands ( with a separate TIR profile for it).

But you can override the native A10 settings with TM supplied software. .

Ok. So looks like I will have to download the TR software and assign at least 1 of the buttons to centre TIR either assigning a not used bottom or a shift function which I assume it has?

I take it that if I only use the TR software for just 1 function only it doesn't mean I then have to assign every other function too or will it still work the plug and play method except the 1 function I change?

Hope that makes sense?

What does everyone else do flying the hog and using the warthog hotas do if they have TIR?
