This is going to be hard to explain, but it seems to me that the ME has become something of a powder cake and you never seem to know whats going to set it off to blow up your mission. I have several missions that I have built in 1.5 but cant run them cuz they at some point in editing, they become unstable and I have know Idea what I "did" to cause the instability. Like, for example, I have a mission that was working fine until I added some Trigger zones to notify the multiplayer environment when enemy troops were passing through. So I go to save the mission. It seems to save fine, but then I go to fly the mission and I get the box that says the mission has not been saved, do you want to save... if you click yes, the box will reappear as if you did nothing. if you click no, the mission will load, but as soon as you jump into an aircraft, DCS shuts down instantly with no error, no nothing. So I go back and remove the items I added and still the mission exhibits the same behavior in that it shuts down if I occupy any aircraft.

I have had similar experiences with several missions. It makes me nervous anytime I open a mission to make changes that the mission will never work again. So much so, that I started making copies of missions before editing them for even the smallest change. This is so stupid, and irresponsible programming on DCS's part.

I am not one to give advice about the ME but after having numerous experiences like yours I have come to the conclusion that if I save a mission after editing, close DCS World and return to desktop, then re-open DCS World BEFORE running the mission, I get more reliable results. It's my theory that there is something about the SAVE function that is not working properly. Take it for what it's worth.

I do have the same error .. As soon as I go back to the mission change something like a skin or a load .. something is broken. Can't get into the slot .. crash right up

Fly it like you stole it..

Be happy to share my miz and log file...

Yes, I am willing to share the missions and I had to zip up my dcs.log file to get it to upload to the forums without and "upload error". This miz file is a map I origionally created in 1.2 then ported over to 1.5. It was working natively fine until I added 3 trigger zones to it now, even after removing the trigger zones, it does not function.

I had this issues even with 1.2 , i came to the conclusion that you have to use save from file menu and not use it from the icon, and that you have to use it sometimes and not on every change you make like i am used to when i work.

But there are many stability problem with ME for sure, i normally tend to simplify things when triggers and stuff go berserk.

Guys, i found a serious problem with the mission editor that you should take care off...

When you opened a mission, edited it, saved it and then went to test the mission in "prepare mission" using the menu, and then return from flight back to the mission editor, you should re-open the original mission (load it again).

Otherwise you are at risk when you save the file, that you loose your pictures and all you attachments in the mission (like files, sounds etc).

This is a bug that has been around since DCS 1.2. Just to let you know.

I've waisted hours restoring a mission with reloading every picture, script and sound file back into the mission because they were lost ...

Sounds like a very good find, I lost a 1.5x mission the other day after modifying it, I knew there was some circumstances in the 1.5x ME that caused corruption and or loss. It lost mist, custom lua and sound files as you describe.

I have been doing all editing in v1.216 and only porting over to 1.5x when very close to final version and haven't had a single failed mission yet.

First 1.5x only mission I downloaded and then edited, baaamm deleted all external program files as stated above when saved.

Hope ED can nail this one quick.

Can't help with log files, etc, as I will not post unless I can reproduce error consistantly.

Sven, are you saving anything as part of prepare mission and which aircraft are you preparing with it?

If it contains an error featuring a bunch of mission editor stuff, then it is definitely useful. Consistently reproducing the bug comes later. Gotta know to specific reason for it first.

And just to verify for anyone having the problem..

A. You are running the game as administrator in windows. Right click the shortcut, go to properties, under the advanced tab click advanced, and make sure "Run as Administrator" is ticked.

B. You don't have the mission file open anywhere else.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.
