:helpsmilie:I cannot complete this mission! I've flown it 6 times.:helpsmilie:

PROBLEM; It gets dark very quick as soon as I get there and my laser stops locking targets.

PROBLEM; My wingman, if i let him loose on "ground targets" starts wasting his Viks' on the trucks, not any armor, presumably because they are closer. And I need both our rockets to get all the armor; MBT's and the IFV's and the APC's. I know I can kill the IFV's and APC's with the 30mm AP rounds, but i have to get much closer to use them, in within range of them.

PROBLEM; The parachute dropped illumination missiles very rarely actually illuminate the target area. Related to PROBLEM 1.

PROBLEM; I don't actually know what the mission complete criteria is. Brief says elliminate armor as a primary objective, but what armor exactly? Couple times I elliminated all the parked MBT's, the GRADs, and the AKATSIAs but I still couldn't complete the mission.

Anybody have any experience with this mission?

I just flewthat one last Sunday:

This is true, and the Flares didn't work for me either, seems to be a bug :( However if you hurry you can get there and complete the mission before it gets dark, thats how I did it. Hopefully that also solves your problem with locking targets.

If you are a completionist it's definitely going to be dark by the time you land, wich can be very intersting without NVGs :smilewink:

You can just designate targets for him one by one. That way he won't waste missles on trucks and targets not important for your mission, but it obviously takes a bit more time that way. I just designated for him in between attacking targets myself, whenever he finished killing his last one.

The only targets you need to kill are the ones way in the back. They are arranged in a neat square formation, IIRC its only Tanks, BMPS, MLRS and Artillerypieces.

I found the best way to get them without wasting missles is to wait until the SEAD flight is finished, then fly over the town to left from your ingress point and attack them from there.

Hope this Helps :)

That's surely a problem.

What you could do is to switch to manual targeting, though. Basically, manual targeting means you always get launch authorization from the targeting system and then it's up to you to meet all required parameters. As long as you get the target frame on the target and get an accurate range (by pressing the target-lock button once, even if it doesn't lock), you should get a hit percentage very near that of automatic mode.

Of course it won't work in total darkness, but if you adjust the Shkval contrast a bit, you should be able to keep fighting quite a while after the Shkval stops locking targets.

IIRC I always had to fly this mission several times whenever I flew the campaign, it's quite tough, but it's doable, and the cannon is always a great tool to mop up when your Vikhrs are running low after the air defenses have been taken out.

Completed!

Thank you both!

Instead of following the Brief and following the route speed and way points, I just decided to go straight to the Ingress point as fast as I can. This gave me a little more time in the light.

First I took care of all the armor units that can shoot back (apc's, ifv's etc). Then I took care of the MBT's, directing my wingman to "shoot my target" for the couple of them that remained after I ran out of my Viks. After that I just took care of the Grads and Akatsias with my 30mm AP's with the help of my wingman who at that point just let loose.

And yes I am a bit of a completionist so I usually follow all the waypoints/navpoints and at the defined speed. I guess I had to bend the rules a bit this time but I am happy. Cheers.

Good to hear that it worked :)

Yeah, I too normally like to stick to the Briefing and not bend the rules but with the flares not working properly night missions just don't work very well for the KA-50.

Out of curiosity, did the illumination flares work for you in the earlier mission where you have to attack the house and then chase down the car?

For me they didn't, may be this is actually a problem with the flare canisters and not a bugged mission trigger.

Illumination

No, I don't think they worked then either. I think the illumination was there but not where it was supposed to be. To me appears like the AI doesn't calculate for wind when they launch them. On that mission, and on this one we were talking about, I noticed that they were drifting way off the target, even if they were lit.
