deephack Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Hello all, Obviously my question is related to the recent events on the Syrian/Turkish border however as per forum rules I'm not looking for any comment on that. Just wondering if Russian military aircraft have the equipment to monitor VHF UNICOM and if this channel is monitored as a matter of course? https://www.youtube.com/user/deephack

SimFreak Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I'm not 100%, but I believe Ru aircraft are unable to monitor 243mhz freq. I'm betting F-16 guard calls were made on it given that is mainly used by US made aircraft.
deephack Posted November 26, 2015 Author Posted November 26, 2015 +IvanK Thanks for clarifying that, it seems that the Turkish warnings were actually issued on UHF Guard which is 243Mhz as you state. https://www.youtube.com/user/deephack
Emu Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Perhaps that frequency is something that can be changed to avoid further confusion.
nscode Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 @Ghostraider As far as I can see, that only governs interception of civilian aircraft. One of the documents to the UN mentions some rules of engagement changed in 2012. Does anyone have those? Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
