Mad Dog 7.62 Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Been a long time since I have flown this thing. Anyone have a cold start checklist handy they could share? I can't seem to find mine! Rongor Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) Section 12-2 of the manual features the startup checklist! You may also want to try out the links provided in this thread. This was done for the "old" BlackShark but it might still work and therefore help. Edited December 15, 2015 by Rongor

Glad I saw this, I already had your guide downloaded and have used it for reference in learning to fly the Ka-50. Ashamed to admit, I have been doing the good ole winkey+ home shortcut to start it up. Reckon now that I am actually flying combat missions now, time for me to take the time to learn. Going to print those pages out for reference and start on this next. Thanks again for your great guides! dburne Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Well I failed miserably on the first attempt, not to mention my wingman took off and left me long before I was even making good progress LOL. I think I messed up during the actual engine starts, working the fuel cutoff valves and such. The rotor started to spin, then stopped. Will try again in the morning when have some fresh coffee and more time. Need to spend some time studying the manual more and getting more familiar with all the instrument locations as well. You will get there eventually, I for one thought I'm never going to remember this lot. I even had a long break due to computer failure recently, got back in the pit and started it up in 3-4 minutes. It will become second nature. Going to start on the Mi-8 next, now that does look daunting.

Going to start on the Mi-8 next, now that does look daunting. Well I finally did it, just performed my first successful cold start in the KA-50. I used Chuck's checklist in his KA-50 guide ( printed out the relevant pages), and made sure I followed each item exactly. Got her started up and flying! Now, I am not even going to say how long it took me LOL. I am sure as I continue to do it and become more familiar with where everything is located, my timing will improve. No more winkey+home for me! Hey I am getting better at it, starting to be more familiar now with where everything is - really enjoying starting up the KA-50 properly, thanks to this great guide! Chuck, just fyi there is a typo in the Startup Checklist in the guide: Step 11: Ekran-Hydro ON ( DOWN). Set cover UP, set switch UP, then set cover DOWN. I believe should read set switch down No biggie I was able to get it figured out fairly quickly, just may want to change when you get a chance. Thanks again for this great guide, it has been very beneficial to me in finally learning the KA-50! dburne Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Thanks for the heads up... I'll get it fixed asap. Thanks again for your guide, I was somewhat struggling to learn Cold Start using the training mission, this guide was the answer for me. dburne Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 So here I am a couple of weeks since deciding to dig in and learn how to cold start the KA-50. At first thinking man this is way to complicated for me, searching for the right buttons to push in the right order, using Chuck's excellent guide to do it over and over again. Now, I am successfully doing a cold start and taking off without even looking at the list any longer. Certainly I still have it printed and by my side to have as a reference, but what started out as something I just did not think I would ever wrap my arms around, to now doing it almost second nature. What a great feeling. Man this stuff is fun. :) Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|
