I just installed the mirage module for DCS 2.0 and Im wondering if there is any training missions available? I cant find any. Im guessing because its a beta no missions are available yet. Is there any training/missions available for version 1.5?

Felix, you have a good gripe and I like how you word it. First off, I like Matt Wagner's video on how to start and a general intro. I think I watched it about six times now.

I hate to say this but we all need to RTFM... Read the Flipping Manual. I will do that this week. Over time there will be You Tube videos but don't rely on them. Read and you will know the real deal.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of installing 1.5 instead incase training missions was only available for that version and not 2.0. It seems that is not the case then. I just find that its alot easier to learn flying a new plane when you can play interactive training missions, than just reading/watching a video. It can be difficult to remember it all and also involves alot of alt tabbing :) I guess i will have to learn it the hard way then!

I think that you will have to wait a little, it really only makes sense to provide training missions once all the systems are fully operational. So later down the beta or at full release.

Indeed...

The Mirage is the ONLY DCS plane for which there are no

interactive training missions......

Even the F-5 (WIP) has them!

The missions for 1.5 will be released first, and then once 2.0 is fully ready, ported to Nevada. Since updates are not equal between 1.5 and 2.0 I'd rather focus on one, wait for feedback and then port final training missions to 2.0 (or straight to 2.5).

Well, these are also WIP for M-2000C. In fact, mostly ready.

The bottom line is - how can one release full set of training missions if parts of the module you are supposed to train are still in development? :) like INS for instance. I have to wait for the work to be finished by the devs before I can build training scenarios. No way around it, really :music_whistling:

As things stand 7/10 missions are ready, the outstanding ones being INS / Navigation / INS bombardment.

Well, other planes are beta or even wip,

and have a full set of missions.

Why don't they release at least those 7 missions?

Not all betas are created equal! It should be pretty obvious to anyone that's got the F-5E that it was made available way later in its dev cycle than the M-2000C.

The reason they don't release the training missions already is because a) people will get upset if they change how something is implemented after they've already done a training mission on it and b) people will get upset if a training mission breaks because of changes in the module and c) the person maintaining the training missions gets upset if they have to do significant rework because something changed in the module.

As I said, some of the systems are quite interconnected. It just does not make any sense to do the same thing twice whenever something changes in one of the systems, as nomdeplume has rightly pointed out. I don't know how much you know about creating missions, but it takes a lot of effort to properly build one, as not only triggers need to be set up, but also voiceovers, scripts etc etc. That is why it makes more sense to wait until the module comes out of early access.

All three points are valid (with, from my personal point of view, with an emphasis on C) and explain well why it is better to wait for a little while longer.

+1

People are already upset when Chuck's guide becomes obsolete, even if it's unofficial...

And it isn't Chuck's fault either, the module being WIP.
