SailorDoc1 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Any suggestions on learning how to fly this ac. I am using a Cougar HOTAS and Foxy w/ a decent profile. Also have touch screen and Touch Buddy. I have seen and continue to review Ironhands videos and have made an A2G mission similar to some of his. Basically this ac flies like a top heavy wheelbarrow. Setting up to fire LGM is cumbersome at best. The plane is slow to respond. I think Ironhand mentioned that you basically have to anticipate your next move. I have flown my A2G mission at least 20 times and at best have hit just one target. It is easy to blame the ac but I know I must be doing something wrong. The ac if difficult to line up and the missles never seems to hit the targets. Inside the Options menu I have tried several settings, from no curve at all to full curve w/dead zone. So any help would be greatly appreciated at this time. SailorDoc SailorDoc ASRock Dual Series Mobo AMD 4600 Dual Core OCZ 2gig 3200 DDR II ATI 9800 Pro 256mb video ViewSonic A90f monitor 8in. Force_Feedback Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Watch your AoA, if you exceed it at slow speeds when flying low, you may enter a fatal spin. Practice a lot flying it without any armament, then you will get the feel for this sturdy piggy. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
S77th-konkussion Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Yup- the AOA meter has a redline on the rim- observe it. You can fly the redline, but if you exceed it you'll start to shake. You simply cannot turn too hard or it will turn right over and drop. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Maverick-90 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 NEVER load it 100% it's like a Big Rock then: Heavy, underpowered and flies only with Luck 95% is the maximum to fly with a chance to survive also take care of your trim, since you have to retrim all the time, and there is no trim-reset...

SailorDoc1 Posted July 21, 2006 Author Posted July 21, 2006 Thanks for the replies. I really like this ac and would like to be able to fly it half way decent. What I am finding is progress with it is slow. I have flown the A10 after flying the Su25t....well there is no comparison. Though the SU is a cooler looking ac. At this point my motto is, "Progress, not perfection." Ironhand makes it look so easy. Crusty Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 In UK its called a turn and slip indicator. In Russia, I dunno oo err...missus:animals_bunny: ** Anti-Pastie**
ARM505 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Do a free flight in the T with half fuel and no weapons, just to get the feel for the aircraft in it's natural state, it's quite a bit better - everybody (myself included) tends to start off with the plane loaded like a truck. Remember this when the **** hits the fan, because if you're in a tight spot you'll need to ditch your stores unfortunately. Also remember that you'll need to ditch the Vikhr racks if you want to go above about 680 or km/h otherwise you get the vibro-massage therapy! I know it can go faster, but I hate that vibration. Observe the AoA meter, it's handy. Don't expect it to handle like the A10, which quite frankly feels more like a radio-controlled plane to me, able to turn like an eel. Use the an autopilot function to help you concentrate on targetting when the situation calls for it. For example, in the T quick flight mission, put the nose on the horizon, throttle back, wings level, and engage attitude hold. Then you can get those Vikhr's off easily enough - you should be able to kill five of the vehicle column in one pass (a bit of an artificial situation, sure, but's its demonstrating a 'maximum' potential) In combat in an unknown situation, I consider it a good pass if I can kill two targets with them. The autopilot is handy in other places too, for example on the cruise in, so get to know it. You can then think about the attack, and get your settings sorted if using free fall bombs, cannon pods, munitions dispensers etc. Also, don't expect Vikhr's to hit anything at close range, or if you slew the designated point around too much - they will be too busy spiralling all over the sky. I usually use two per target (all the time on tanks), less if there are plenty of targets to kill, or if I'm at long range and I know the missile will have a chance to stabilise before impact. As has been said, remember to straighten the joystick curves for the 25, and 25T. Thats how they were designed to feel. I still think it's the best feeling flight model in all of the virtual skies, bar none. Remember things like the IR jammer when the time comes to get shot at (obvious, but I always forget to turn it on, doh!) For me the T, and the basic 25 are the most fun to fly in Lock On. Mostly because of the fantastic feel, but also for the challenge of manhandling the truck-like T around with a full load! Thirdly, the MiG29, for a few minutes at least, before I run out of fuel anyway!
brewber19 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Hi Sailor (oo-er missus), I'd be happy to show you the ropes in the T if you like....do you fly on the 504 Air-to-Air or Air-to-Ground servers at all? I can be found loitering on the 504 A2G server most weekends...and will also be on the 504 TeamSpeak server also...if you want to hook up I'd be happy to fly wing etc....or can organise a 1:1 training flight as I already have missions made for 504 training and our pilot exchange program. Since I don't know where you're from....are you comfortable speaking English? I'm not talented enough to be bi-lingual, in fact some would say even my english isn't that great ;) Anyways, the offer is there, I'm usually around during the weekends between 2000zulu and 0000zulu (or 2100 until 0100 british summer time....cos I'm a Brit ;)) Brewber out. EDIT: Are you using my TouchBuddy profile for Su-25T? If so, it might make training even easier, although I assume you're familiar with the necessary A/C systems and associated key commands...if not, no worries, it just requires a different teaching style. Any suggestions on learning how to fly this ac. I am using a Cougar HOTAS and Foxy w/ a decent profile. Also have touch screen and Touch Buddy. SailorDoc1 Posted July 21, 2006 Author Posted July 21, 2006 Thanks again for the replies. Brewber19, yes I use your TB profile, its really good. Highly recommended! No I do not fly online, I need to practice a bit more before I venture out. But I do appreciate the offer. I will change my HOTAS controls to linear, instead of trying to figure out the right curvature. So I will keep at it and hopefully I can kill that damn SAM before he takes me out. Great suggestions from all of you, thanks again. SailorDoc SailorDoc ASRock Dual Series Mobo AMD 4600 Dual Core OCZ 2gig 3200 DDR II ATI 9800 Pro 256mb video ViewSonic A90f monitor 8in.
