BROKKOLI Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 :helpsmilie: Since v1.5 I have severe RAM problems when playing online, which I never encountered in 1.2. This means if there are more than approx. 10 players in a server, I get system warning to close DCS due to lack of RAM. If I keep playing, DCS just freezes or kicks me out of the game after a short time. Basically it prevents me from playing on popular servers. I did not have this issue in v1.2. It sounds a bit strange because my specification should suffice: I have 8GB RAM (2GB are used by various processes), Win10 x64 and i7 CPU. My in-game graphic settings are rather low; the only thing I have on "high" is textures, all the rest is either low or medium at most. Is there any way to solve this issue? What in-game settings affect RAM the most? (So that I can try to drop 'em to "low" and see if it helps)
BitMaster Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Some settings are set by the server side and thus may exceed your limits. Try upgrading RAM to 16GB, many positive reports about that in here 1 Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 8, 2016 ED Team Posted January 8, 2016 8 gb is minimum for DCS now, I would make sure depth of field is off, and use flat shadows for a start, then play around with the other settings until you find a good balance. DCS System requirements below Minimum system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i3; RAM: 8 GB; Free hard disk space: 30 GB; Video: 2 GB RAM card, DirectX11 - compatible; requires internet activation. NeilWillis Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Can you describe it as a bug when you run out of resources and only have the minimum to begin with? Sure, the game will run at the minimum spec, but don't be surprised if it can't handle everything. Also it should be borne in mind that the whole DCS World is still being optimised, and also that this issue has already been raised by others. As Bignewy said, there is an obvious solution.
Shmick Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Also, it sounds like your Windows page file is switched off or limited, or you (sorta) can't run out of memory... Though if your page file drive(s) run out of space you'll get an out-of-memory situation. If paging has to be regularly used, your performance could well plummet.
BROKKOLI Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 Well guys, let me clarify: this RAM issue is online-only. When I play offline, it never happens, the game runs smoothly and with rather high settings. So it may be as BitMaster says: some setting may be set by a server, and thus it kills my machine. If this is the case, lowering my settings will do no good. Will upgrading to 12GB do? Or do i need 16GB to play online without issues?
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 10, 2016 ED Team Posted January 10, 2016 go for 16gb if you are going to upgrade 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Kuky Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Make sure first that there is no memory leak somewhere when playing online, if there is increasing RAM won't solve it, eventually you'll get same warning message again. If you have max RAM usage just as you join and not because of memory leak, then it's good to get more RAM... I'd say go for 16GB. But how can I check that I have no memory leaks? Via looking at RAM tab of Task Manager? Or do I need to use some specific software to find memory leaks?
