Something I have never understood is why when every single other thing is repaired to new condition when you get Repaired by the Ground Crew, the Throttle's "Safety Wire" is NOT repaired/replaced ?

Repairs never leave anything else out. So it seems to me that if the rest of the plane is again "like new" then why not the Throttle/WEP Safety Wire ?

The downside to it not also being repaired/replaced, is that the throttle is forever after "sloppy" or "sensitive" in the manifold region between 35in and 50in (give or take a few inches). That is to say, it is somewhat erratic in that region of manifold pressure and therefore a bit more difficult to be precise with your manifold pressure settings and control.

Of course this only applies to the current plane.

Once this aircraft is demolished/killed and you jump into a new plane, everything is as it should be ... at least until you use WEP, land and Repair. Then you go on again with a sloppy/sensitive throttle again.

Is this something that DCS will ever Fix or Change ?

I do hope DCS will consider correcting this issue some time soon.

Maybe the crew chief hasn't got any more wire, or more to the point, once the wire is broken, then the engine needs to be overhauled anyway, which is definitely beyond the remit of a few minutes of repair. More like a base workshop job.

So, I wouldn't say it was an issue. Just get into a new aircraft if you want the wire back in place.

@NeilWillis >> The time doesn't seem to stop them from doing a complete skin overhaul, new landing gear and cockpit and yes, engine rebuild too.

@SiThSpAwn >> Thank you. I appreciate that you will report it. I think it is something that has been overlooked.

It wouldn't be much of an issue if the Throttle didn't seem to be so "loose" or difficult to fine tune as it is before using WEP.

A new aircraft certainly does eliminate the issue, but who wants to do that ?

Thanks again friend.

Press your \ key. You'll receive a menu that lists function key selections. Select F8 Ground Crew. Then Select F3 Request Repair. You'll get a text message telling you how long the repair will take (For example, a prop change caused by hitting the brakes and nosing over will take about 150 seconds). And yes, that time is from experience:music_whistling:

It is important to know that in order to commence the repair countdown (using the Comms Key \ ), you MUST be completely shut down ... i.e. engine off and prop not turning. Also make sure your Canopy is Open so the ground crew can hear you !!

You must also be on the Airport Grounds (or Farp as the case may be for helicopters etc).

Thanks a lot to: saburo cz, Balzarog, and SnowTiger for your quick and thorough answer to my question. I'm loving the P-51 and maybe, in a not too distant future, I'll even be able to land this baby without completely destroying the aircraft on the runway, or wherever this aicraft decides to crash!!! 8-)

Thanks again,

I've been flying the Mustang (along with the Fw190, F5, and the Huey) for a couple of months now, and while I can "generally" get them in the air now, landing is another matter. I've taken to selecting "Invulnerable" in the game options so my logbook doesn't look like a massacre. The best thing to do is to select "Instant Action," select your aircraft, and then select Approach and Landing or Landing depending on the aircraft. It does help with developing the landing muscle memory without having to fly through those stupid gates in the landing training mission. After you learn to land in the straight line approach, you can try to do the training landing mission.

When all else fails, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!

If you fellows have a favorite server and the use of a TeamSpeak Channel, I can walk you through baby-bum smooth landings pretty quickly I'm sure.

Just let me know.

Best was is to PM me and arrange a time (preferably EST if possible) for when we can hook up.

I haven't flown in about a month now and even longer for the Mustang but it's like riding a bike. I'm confident we'll have you both landing like pros in no time.
