Hey guys just started flying f15c to prep up for Nevada red flag. When locking targets in TWS what can you do when they are so bunched up you cant individually designate and clearly see them?

The only way to resolve that is to change your aspect angle in relation to the targets to allow separation to be able to lock them..

So if you're flying head on to them then you should crank until they start to separate, if they are turning in with you then it might be wise to flee at that point because well if you can only launch on one that leaves the others free to do what ever they please.

you possible could launch or hard lock one and hope it spooks them to start breaking apart enough to then be able to hard lock them all..

also it is possible if they are close enough togther if you get a good hit on one it could knock all out but this is like winning the lotto very unlikely.

For the WIN

If your desired effect on the target is making the pilot defecate his pants laughing then you can definitely achieve it with a launch like that.

So you mean but them on like a 30 deg. angle to my nose, enough to keep them on my radar, that would separate them on the screen?

TWS lock updates faster than a non locked target. Locked targets will gradually pull away from the group until the others update. This is the best method I know of.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

Yes there is a little delay in the updates of the targets. So with some practice you can lock 4 bandits in really close formation. Sometimes you need to go a little bit left or right (change aspect) to let them delay the other way if you know what i mean.

Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.

what would be nice would be a step function - press a button and the computer selects the highest priority non-friendly-IFF contact, then designate, select next highest, desig, etc

not dependent on user's cursor control

Or you know, some way to zoom in the radar display.

In real life, we would expand the radar.

In simplified DCS avionics, I don't think there is anything you can do.
