Hey Folks,

I've been facing the following problem Vikhrs are missing their targets when the range is above 4.0 despite a solid lock, they simply fly astray and hit the ground, also the plane is not standing still when i hover mode to attack like it used to be in the previous versions, it keeps moving sideways. I remember zooming in on the shkval screen and forgetting about the plane with the hover mode/auto pilot and auto turn to target enabled and of course the trimmer disabled.:helpsmilie:

Try to trimm out manually and don't use the auto hover function if you are in a situation where the autopilot can't keep up.

Vikhr can be targeted and lead also manually. You can find the switch to this function on the front weapon panel. When you switch to manual the target lock can be anything and you can guide the Vikhr on it's route to the target also. So if you will see the missile straying to the side, then move the cursor in opposite way.

You can do some fancy stuff with manual settings (like hitting two targets at one time) but it's main strenght is the option to guide the missiles where and how you want.

Do, or do not, there is no try.

vikhr ratio was good in BS1 , IRL it's 85% - 95% hit.

starting with DCS WORLD it go low :( , i'll provide video

if it's crosswind it's another story:)

The laser can overheat, but not by just being on standby.

Laser ranging and laser illumination are the two things that heat up the laser (ranging happens automatically when you push the target lock button on the collective (“АВТ ЗАХВ” button. Toggles target acquisition and lock when using Shkval)). Try to do as little ranging as possible and you should be able to get at least one and a half loads of Vikhrs off (~18 missiles) before the laser starts to overheat.

I sometimes have difficulties to get a target lock. That's why my SOP is to set laser to off, lock up target (as often as I need to in order to get a solid lock), then set laser to standby and lock target again (which will also update the range to target).

When you range or engage a target, there's a countdown timer displayed in the HUD. Never ever range or engage anything before the timer has reached zero!

If the laser does overheat, there's a 30 minute cooldown period, and I think aircraft repair doesn't affect laser cooldown. You'll know the laser stops working when you can't get an updated range indication in the Shkval.

What you described as "they simply fly astray and hit the ground" is what happens with a cooked laser.

This one. :)

I don't think OP overheats the laser. Once it's overheated, there's no more rangefinding, and so he couldn't tell that the hit-ratio goes down over 4 km.

Ralphk, can you demonstrate the problem in a short mission and post your track?

I don't think its an overheating issue, because i flip the laser on whenever i wana target and shoot. I beleive it is more of a wind factor... i improve my shot accuracy with altitude and a ranged below 4.0 I will try to post a track.

it's crosswind almost certainly, i've had the same thing while trying to shoot in a few campaign missions. missile exits the tube and doesn't even enter the SHKVAL picture before spinning into the ground.

unfortunately you'll probably have to try sniping with the gun, rockets against any sort of threat with a 20mm+ are probably a no-go.

From looking at the track, the first missile went miss because you were in a VRS state and descending rapidly

2nd missle missed alos, you were descending pretty fast.

Third missle not sure, after that you got hit by an AT-5 and crashed, according to my replay..

Yes, try making yorself a training mission without enemy vehicles and try it out yourself. Stay low, pop-up, hover, lock, launch, wait for impact, drop down again.
