garyn123 Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Hi All, I'm interested in having a wider screen for DCS without putting several monitor next to each other.... * Is a curved 34" monitor the way to go? * would a GTX 970 have enough oomph to drive it? * Does DCS support QHD resolution (3440x1440)? * Would DCS fill the screen both horizontally and vertically, without black bars? Thanks! Gary
Jumbik Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) * Yes * Yes but not max settings if you want 60 fps, also depends if you have 3440x1440 or 2560x1080 monitor. * Yes * Yes There is a thread about this in HW sections. Edited January 30, 2016 by Jumbik Do, or do not, there is no try. -------------------------------------------------------- Sapphire Nitro+ Rx Vega 64, i7 4790K ... etc. etc.
TomOnSteam Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 970 should easily drive that type of screen at near max details. For the most part my 970 GTX gets over 120-180FPS depending on conditions. Of course at airports and things it will drop down to near 60-100ish but that's still plenty. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cockpit Spectator Mode
garyn123 Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 thanks guys! Is DCS outputting 3440 x 1440, or is the monitor 'stretching' the image to fill the screen? Gary
DayGlow Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 It will fill the screen. Dcs is very flexible in its renderer. "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11
Goblin Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I have a curved Samsung Ultra Wide 34" 3440x1440 and it's great! DCS sets the field of view so it fits the resolution. It doesn't stretch the view. You just see a wider angle of the view. I.e. You see more of the virtual world. I have a GTX980TI.
Ragtop Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) I have an LG 34UC97, works amazingly with DCS. Max settings at 3440x1440 with a GTX980, i5 2500k and 8gb memory is well over 60fps in most situations. Edited January 31, 2016 by Ragtop 476th vFG Alumni

I would like to see a screen shot of you getting 180fps on high settings because I find it very hard to belive when your runjing a 970. My 980 won't get anywhere near that at that resolution
bernp Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I purchased the Dell 34" ultra wide and a 980ti gpu. It definitely improved the sim immersion factor for me. I have my original 24" monitor plugged into my gpu as well. I use it primarily for viewing flight manuals and watching/pausing dcs tutorials, while running dcs simultaneously on the 34". I'm really happy with this setup. Good luck deciding, so many good options out there.
jetsimace Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Which Field of View (FOV) does the 3440x1440 resolution provide? With my resolution of 2560x1080 I have a FOV of 75 degrees - e.g. see ...\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Config\View\SnapViewsDefault.lua ... SnapViews["A-10C"] = { ... [13] = {--default view viewAngle = 75.000000,--FOV ... Iam just curious because both resolutions (3440x1440 and 2560x1080) have the same aspect ratio of 21:9.
