The new Version is set to run as Admin that's why, needs admin privs to move and rename files within saved games folder.

 

This was noted in the Change Log.

That's what I was asking previously, why is it needed for the Saved Games folder when it is located in the Users files? No admin permission needed.

Deleting and Overwriting.

 

But the Main Reason is Since DCS.exe Should be Run as Admin, then the App Should be as well, that way when it launches DCS, it's already at the same elevated state, so if A Use Clicks Cancel on the DCS Launch, it will not crash the APP.

DCS.exe doesn't run as admin for me, but I'm obviously not explaining myself well here. What I am asking, is why you need to request admin, when the user is only saving files to his/her own area, including the 'Saved Games' folder. No admin rights required for that.

The app needs admin rights to overwrite and append files even in the /saved games/ folder.

 

I will look into it further, to see if I can change some code around to avoid the issue.

When a new version of this GUI tool comes out do I got to redownload it from this forum page or will tool auto update?

 

Also do I have to put this tool in the DCS World Directory?

 

Another question is this a install or just a exe with quick uninstall by just deleting?

No do not place in DCS World Directory,

 

It's a Single EXE, no install, just delete.

As for Next Update and Removal of Admin Privs. Required,

 

Here lies the Issue, if DCS is Set to Run as Admin, then it does not detect DCS Running on Launch due to the process running on elevated permissions.

 

If App and DCS Both are not launching w/ Admin, App Detects DCS Start Correctly,

 

if App is set to Admin and DCS is or is not, App Detects DCS Running Correctly Both Circumstances, however other applications (Discord, Steam OBS, etc will not function w/ DCS Correctly.)

 

So If your DCS is Set to Run as Admin, then the App Should be As well, otherwise it will not detect DCS Launches. But right now leaving the decision in the end users hands is the best option.

Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere but I couldn’t find it by searching this thread. I was looking for a “Help” file or manual that would help me learn how to use the interface of the DCS GUI Utility. There is an entry in one of the file menus but it seems to take me to the earlier CMD line format, at least none of the pictures seem to address the GUI Utility. I know many of you have followed this since it was created but I could use something to train me how to use it.

Pardon my ignorance but may I ask the purpose of the different slot builds? I understand vr on/off need and the clean repair and update functions and the ability to load or remove modules but I’m ignorant of the need for different slot builds unless it is use to configure dcs for diff end mp squads if possible.

 

I would like the ability to have a single click startup where you can start srs, ts, discord, lotatc, jetseat, voice attack, etc then have dcs start. Even better to be able to configure the above apps to connect to the different servers depending on the map server your joining. Ie squad a connects the srs, ts and server dependent apps to connect for squad a then have a separate button for squad b and connect everything and start everything configured for squad b. I know it’s a lot to ask for but the first version to allow you to select the apps in the order to start all the way up to dcs. This would be easier in the old dos days we used a bat file to do this.

Simply put for those that have multiple instals of DCS

 

For me I had 3 instals at one stage taking up slots

Release

Openbeta

Normandy

 

Also had issues at one point with the game updaters that would and would not run.

The utility has been very useful in managing this, dont have to go into cmd line stuff, the utility has it all built in.

Now I just have Release and openbeta on seperate drives.

Slots are used for when a user has more than 1 install to manage,

 

for example and any given time, I have 5 - 7 installs that are active, and then backup installs on a external drive w/ no modules installed.

the new utility version seems to not show PG terrain installed on the beta version.

 

Its there and all good, just for some reason does not register with the update?

Had to reinstall DCS on a new PC, and this utility wouldn't allow any Starforce keys for WWII Assets, NTTR or Normandy. Just says 'the selected module does not have an external Starforce DRM console'.

Is that normal?

Do Not TAMPER w/ Autoupdate.cfg
