Hi,

Tried jumping on a multiplayer tonight and got lost, very quickly.

Is there a post that tells you what to expect when you go onto a multi-player server?

Thanks,

I don't think so. But there isn't really anything special about MP. I think the biggest problem is to find a suiting server to play on. I guess a good starting point would be the 104th Phoenix server which offers pretty straight forward missions. Just read the briefing and get airborne ;)

It is also recommended (but not necessary) to jump on the server's teamspeak to get in contact with other players.

TeamSpeak will be your best friend in the MP world. Everything as far as systems and such go are the same as in SP - however missions, tasks and areas may be different and/or restricted for certain types of gameplay. Find a server that is regularly populated and has teamspeak and chat up the people there. 104th is a good place to start, as well as hoggit. One thing you will find about this online community is that by majority, it is a much more mature, professional group of enthusiasts as opposed to some other games.

I can break it down for you. YOU'RE GONNA GET REKT. And then you're gonna get rekt again. And then again. And then some more. But hang in there it's the best thing you'll ever do.

The point is, you should be improving every time you get rekt. Eventually this will add up and your knowledge will be over 9000. Although you kind of need an entry level knowledge to be able to learn from your mistakes. That can be hard to come by without a high level of dedication.

Flying in a group, TS and or having an insctructor is a bit of a shortcut that'll make it easier.

If you are looking for a bit slower start, take a look at the Virtual Aerobatic server. It is a non-combat server where you can get the hang of MP without the threat of being shot down. We have Air to air refueling, learn to fly formation with other pilots and in general get a good feel about MP without the immediate threats. Then when you are ready for combat, the 104th is one of the best!

YOU'RE GONNA GET REKT

Translation for those readers over the age of 12: You are going to get "wrecked" (i.e. shot down or crash frequently).

Thanks.

But I think there is a little more. I jumped in a plane and grabbed a load out. I did not know I had to wait, or watch for a message about the load out status. Thankfully as I was heading to the run way I looked and saw empty hard-points, which I think is a very bad thing going into combat.

Plus the computer kept giving my call sign multiple instructions, some of which I just didn't get.

Finally where can I find the terms I have heard folks use on the youtube videos, fox three, push, defensive, offensive and some others. Plus who the hell is the dude talking to all the planes, is that AWACS? Human AWACS?

Is that in the urban dictionary?

No, it's just the internet language. :)

Ignore ATC calls they are useless. Not getting a loadout might be due to a lot of things. What were you flying?

You can look for some brevity PDFs but it's not the most important thing tbh. There is a core set of brevity that almost everyone uses but other than that everything else varies with groups.

I was in the A-10A on Open Warfare.

You server had a setting page didn't it? Also you server was not showing up last night. Maybe it was full?

Brevity Codes....Fox 2, Fox 3 etc etc - look here

Depends on your server, some do have human AWACs, others GCI or ATC....

Thank you.

Just upgraded my joystick so I am trying to figure that out and waiting for a pair of rudder pedals. Got TeamSpeak up and running. and am used to TrackIR (should have bought THAT way earlier).

Right now just dipping my toes into the wading pool as I get used to all the new settings and learning the new joystick assignments. Then I will wade in, looks like a lot of fun.

So I have tried the open conflict server, and I died, virtually, but not bad.

Finally figured some stuff out, they do not seem to have a teamspeak server though.

Really need my rudder though, should be here soon and then...
