I have a GTX 970 and in a simple mission, the "Instant Action" Su-25T mission - Close Air Support Medium, I get insane lag spikes whenever I turn my view towards the ground targets. There are both red and blue ground vehicles in the area and it doesn't matter if the view is from the air, far or close, but whenever the view gets even CLOSE to looking at the ground vehicles, the GPU usage drops to about 7% to 8%, obviously destroying frame rates, making game unplayable (10 to 15 fps). Is there any way to fix this? Is there a fix coming and how can I work around this? (By the way, this has nothing to do with GPU temperatures, also the CPU usage stays around 30% to 40% through the whole session, doesn't matter if GPU is working normally or not. (I actually expected CPU usage to be very high, but I guess 1.5 really optimised GPU usage so CPU basically stays permenatly around 30 to 40 percent usage now.)

I also played another mission. This one was a bit older but it was created by the mission generator. Overall it has even more vehicles in the whole mission, however, those dip in GPU usage were not present whatsoever at all. This may be due to the fact that I was flying the A-10C though.

I suspect in this case its a ram size issue.

Minimum required is 8GB, however minimum recommended is 16GB.

I was having massive stutters, pauses and such issues in 2.0 and on some occasions in 1.5 O.B.

I had 8GB of memory, doubled it to 16GB and its a much smoother, more pleasant experience now.

I have i5 4690k and an Asus Strix OC GTX980.

I have noticed in some missions in 1.5 my GPU usage numbers are fairly low, like between 30-40% resulting in lower than normal framerates. Flying some of the KA-50 missions. In some others it is fine, resulting in very high framerates like 100+ fps.

Have not noticed the low gpu usage in 2.0.

May just have to do with the current status of 1.5 Open Beta and the fact it is using older terrain tech currently, who knows.

I am thinking probably when everything gets done and merged into 2.0 this may balance out.

Yeah, hopefully newer terrain version will fix this :/

As for RAM, I did not even see the RAM usage go above 6.5GB so I don't think it's the RAM... However, when I have the time and money, maybe I'll consider getting a 16GB kit hopefully.

Yes.. with the latest patch I have a massive FPS drop!

Before the last 2 patches I never got less than 60 FPS with 1.5. Now sometimes I have only 23 FPS.

Looks like the old "tree" problem again but this time no Flat ground shadows or something else helps me.

Edit: Very interesting is that my GPU temperature is going up if I got less FPS and dropping with more FPS and that in REAL TIME (all water-cooled). That's the first time that I can notice such a behavior in a game. Looks like a problem with the CPU too GPU transfer and vice versa.

The GPU average workload is around 63% which is a bad behavior. It’s jumping all the time between 40% and 75%

It’s so low that the GPU boost isn’t kicking in. The GPU is “idling”!

Before that the GPU had a work load of 90% and the boost was always on.

No hardware or software change has happen only the latest patches.

Iwill test this with 2.0.1 too.

Essentially exactly what's happening to me minus the GPU temps. The GPU usage drops so low to 7% that it goes to idling clock speeds and idling voltage! This is quite insane and hopefully there will be a fix for this soon, assuming this is a game related performance hit.

I'll leave this here

(and yes it WILL work with nvidia graphics cards too)

Thank you for the link, but unfortunately, I know that this will not solve the problem. The problem here is GPU usage, not clock speeds. Even when the clock speeds dip to idle speeds due to the extremely low GPU usage, if I look away momentarily into the sky to make the GPU ramp up back to the full voltage and clock speeds again, I can look back at the problematic area and still be running at the full clock speed and voltage except I still have the very low GPU usage. So I know that clock speeds and voltage are not problems. They go down literally because DCS is using the card so little that it thinks it's almost idling.
