Georgian Spring

 

Hello all,

 

I have been away a lot lately and most of my free time to fly has been taken up with Storm of War but things have settled down there so I did some testing last night when I got home and some others have been kind enough to e-mail me their observations , namely ChasedTuna and 71st_AH_Mother.

 

I'll incorporate all of these observations this week and try to have it ready for Thursday.

 

I'll start a thread in the multiplayer server forum soon with background information and technical information.

Is your server the one that is running the attack on Phenyan mission with ai b-52 and Mustangs?

It's a great one, but may I ask you to set the plane visibility larger? The Sabre vs Mig kind of combat requires the largest settings to make it playable, no matter how weird it looks. Thanks!

Which version do I need to find your server? I usually only see the RAF server with their Korea Mission. Unfortunately nobody is there ,so I just tend to go on solo ground attack missions hoping for someone to join.

I'm disappointed that I usually have to fly alone on the RAF Korea server. here's a message to all MIG pilots out there: I'm bombing the sh*t out of Phonyang with my Sabre, come get me! :pilotfly:

Rob, I found your server yesterday. I really like the mission, especially the fact that there was AI to shoot at. Unfortunately I was the only human player :(

 

When I closed up on 2 AI MIGs however, they kept flying straight, they didn't put up any fight. I wonder if it's intended like this.

No, this is not the intended behavior. It happened before after an update. I am trying to work out fixing it but it is inconsistent. If you fly a mig, the sabers will always act aggressive.

Thanks! I wasn't able to check, what kind of ground targets are there to bomb? As far as I remember there were 2 cities close to each other by the sea.

Hey Rob, good server you have going there! One question though - any chance you can add AI bombers/big recon aircraft? I like flying the Mig-15 and think it would be fun to scramble to intercept one of those, especially at high altitude with fighter escort. Not sure if there would be any good options for AI ground attackers either. Just tossing out ideas - I know it's a lot of work doing what you do, so I just appreciate having a good F-86 vs Mig-15 era server as it is currently! Cheers!

Hey guys. I have just started flying the Sabre - really just going through the tutorials, so very green!

 

Is there much of an on line community for the Sabre?

 

I would like to have a go at some online missions at some point, but feel I should be considerably more proficient with the aircraft before venturing online, but would like to try it further down the line.

After the latest news about the Sabre being final (not beta any more) I am looking into it. Thing is... I am also looking at the MiG-15, and I am in serious doubt between both. Ah, decisions...

Eventually I will possibly get both, but I have to start with one.

 

I'd like to know if any of the readers of this post normally plays in european time during nights, and if you do, which of these birds do you fly.

 

I guess I will see you online this week.

Well, which one you buy first will be up to what you like more - mainly an interceptor or a multi-role fighter? The F-86 would probably be the best to get first because you can do many more things with it - dogfight (using guns and early missiles) or ground attack using bombs, rockets or both in the same payload. It's very easy to start up and fun to fly.

 

The Mig technically can bomb, but it has a very limited bomb load (small bombs) so it isn't very useful to ground pound (though the 37 mm cannon can take out some vehicles). It can rip other planes apart with its big cannons, plus it sounds awesome firing them. I personally enjoy flying the Mig more but it's hard to explain why - to me it feels more rugged, somewhat unforgiving, but so satisfying when you out maneuver a F-86 and hear the cannon thud-thud and see your target go up in flames.

 

I got both of them in a bundle so it was cheaper. In the end you can't go wrong with either plane as they are both a joy to fly!

In fact I was heading to the Sabre. But you know how unpredictable love is. You know because you tried to explain why you enjoy the MiG better and it's hard to. I watched videos and found that I should probably start with the Sabre, but catched myself wanting the MiG.

 

I'm the happy owner of a MiG-15!!!

Ok, I have been killed by the AI, I have crashed because of overspeed, I have stalled and I have crashed when landing. But hey, I need maybe a bit of time. During the next days I will be patrolling around if you need an easy target (yes, even easier than the AI).

NOTAM: I have squashed a bug with the AI script and uploaded a new version tonight, AI will be more aggressive.

I will be working on more updates to Georgian Spring this week, hopefully we can move it from an alpha to a beta

- Please add more things to bomb. Currently there is only a truck convoy and some soldiers in a town. Some buildings would be nice to aim my bombs at.

 

- There is a bug with the new M117 bomb. I can select it, but when the ground crew says "rearming complete" it's not on my plane. It works in single player, so I guess it's not enabled in the mission or something like that.

1. Are you sure you are looking in the right place? The Gori Valley is full of targets with vehicles scattered all the way back to Tbilisi and many targets surrounding Sochi as well as most airfields in Russia if you are up for a longer mission.

 

2. This is not a bug, the warehouses don't have the bombs yet and won't until ED release Update 3 on the stable version.

 

Glad you are enjoying the server, I will be working on the persistence aspect this week until ED release Update 3.

Hey Rob, sorry to repeat this question again from the other page - any chance you might add some big air targets for both sides to hunt down? Either recon aircraft or bombers (not sure we have good AI bombers for Korean War era though).

 

It would be fun to chase after a recon plane being escorted by several fighters and have that be one of the objectives. Either way, good work on the server, that non-confrontational AI bug seemed to be going around to all the servers, so I will have to hop onto your server to try it out again!

Yes, now that the AI bug has been found I will be adding more air targets. As for bombers, they don't work very well in DCS yet. I had a B-29 mod bomber in the past but if clients do not have the mod installed they won't see it so I sidelined it until I can build a server pack once I get the mechanics sorted for the server.

 

For now I will look at using the B-52 and the Bear on solo high level missions. Also there is an AWACS on the NATO side that is an ideal target. Cargo flights are also present but not currently transporting anything but soon will be vital to resupply Tbilisi.

 

Cargo ships will also be entering and leaving ports along the coast, delivering ammunition and fuel to NATO forces and must be defended or sunk depending on your faction.

 

As soon as we get some era appropriate Naval aircraft (F8F and Sea Fury) and a decent NATO carrier, there will be a carrier group roaming the Black Sea that could be a target to attack or defend.

 

I will look at reconnaissance aircraft and see what I can do, these would be fairly simple to add and could maybe get that out for tomorrow.

 

Feel free to keep making suggestions.

Sounds like a good plan Rob! That will make it a truly awesome server once there are bombers, transport aircraft, naval ops, etc all on the same map!

 

Oh and I did find that AWACS plane today - took a while to get to it but took it down. I tried to investigate the carrier and DD, but promptly got a missile in my face, haha. Anyways, good work on the server!
