Hey big Mi-8 fan here, so I am biased! xD

- The Mi-8 has the AP assit channels, like the shark it makes flying a bit 'less hands on'. Once you understand these channels and don't fight them anymore, I find flying it way less exhausting then the huey. (I have a TM Warthog^^)

- IT HAS WORKING FAN ANIMATION!!!

- Very forgiving with battle damage, most of the times my pilots die before my chopper.

- Can do all the roles huey does, only thing you might miss is that the Mi-8 has no AI door gunners and you can't 'AI-cheat' to find units.

- Haven't tried slingloads in huey but on the mighty 8 it's terrific fun.

- A lot of system depth, not sure if you have that much small neat stuff in the huey. Coloured flares, siren to embark for your cyber troops(ED we need a ME trigger here!), anti ice systems, drift from the navigation thingy etc. I probably forget something important.

Screw the huey, get the Mi8! :)

I have all three helicopters currently in the sim, huey, hip and bs.

It's actually really fun to fly despite its size it's far more agile than you'd imagine. It's the got the mini guns, bombs, grenade launchers and loads of rockets.

The thing that put me off was the startup. It looked so hard, but after a couple of tries you realize it's actually fairly quick. Not as quick as the huey as you've got to get two engines started, but not that bad.

It feels really similar to the black shark in start procedure, the way you have to get two engines going.

You'll probably have to watch a youtube video or do the training to work out how to get the guns to fire, but again it's fairly simple after a week or so.

Imo it is about the most ugly thing to look at, but it's like that ugly girl in school that you hated, but then you bumped into her, started chatting and looked beyond her looks into her soul and you found the most beautiful person that became more attractive on the outside. Your friends would comment on her looks and ask you what you were doing with her, but you knew. You knew the person that was trapped in that skin.

The hip may be ugly, but it's great fun to be around.

Alright I'll put it on my "to buy" list along with the Huey.

On a side note is the Ka-50 a good module? I thought about getting it but I wanted to learn in a traditional helicopter rather.

The KA-50 is an incredible module, however start with the Huey.

At the moment, I think in DCS, Chopper flight 101 starts with the Huey. There is no simpler model to learn with such forgiving flight characteristics than the Huey. It is a simple airframe that gives the DCS fan base the most fundamental understanding of rotary flight.

Elegant, fluid and forgiving is how I would describe the Huey and it has to be all down to the full hinged rotor with two blades. She is a babe. It makes me wonder what on earth the AH-1W would be like!!!

The Mi-8 is sheer mass and capability, once its systems are understood this chopper is the go anywhere do anything mechanical machine of choice. She has a purpose and she does just that and then some... the bonus is all them switches that need to be thrown whilst doing it.

This girl is heavy metal and as such she has a large inertia, a large resistance to change if you will. She drops into VRS slowly but once she is in VRS she is a pig to get out of VRS!

This is not the VVI speed of measurement.... this is sheer mass refusing to change its attitude.

The KA-50... this chopper... I find it hard to classify this balls out radical machine. There are sayings that a chopper beats the air into submission; I do not believe this to be true with the Huey as she moves with beauty and grace. To some degree this statement is true with the MI-8 as she is a mechanical machine that has massive potential and goes about her business in a very mechanical and efficient manner.

The KA-50 however, truly does beat the air into submission so that she may do as she pleases and when she pleases... supreme is the 6 bladed warrior.

If you don't like his DCS vids he has some weird ones with huge breasted warriors;)

Well I don't know if her breasts are THAT huge now. She's about a DD, no more. (He's talking about the game Black Desert, which I also make videos of, among other games).

Got it myself in autum sale last year but not flown it very much since than so I guess my expirience is still quite low to medium.

The Mi-8 is a heavy duty choper that allows you to fit heavy duty weapons or transport large stuff. Even though it's quite heavy it can be very beasty to controll at times especially when transitioning to vertical take offs or landings.

It's very stable and enjoyable in midflight though and even capeable to do some aerobatics with after some time of familiarisation.

What bugged me most was the fact I never really could trim this bird for staight flight with the autopilot trim functions. It would always wonkle around with a wild pitching nose or extreme sideway drifts and the autopilot ever only seemed to make it worse and keep me working harder.

I discovered my solution to that problem by droping the autopilot trim and setting the 'move controll stick' function to my trim buttons. That way I can now move the stick's center with the buttons while having free controll with the joystick, which feels more natural and easier to controll.

This module is without doubt very content rich and enjoyable once mastered, but with a note of caution: It's difficult to get into without lots of training and ressearch. It's a whole different expirience from flying fixed wing aircrafts.

I do the same thing. I hate the wobble so I turn off the autopilot controls on the pedestal and just trim it out. It has worked fine for me, even though everyone tells me that is not the right thing to do.

Ain't broke, don't fix it.
