After 4 years I'm getting a new gfx card and this is the last step in moving away from AMD-only setup to a Intel/Nvidia setup.

I'm looking at the 3 cards stated above. The 4gb version of 760 and the 2gb 770 are same priced and about 50 euro more expensive than the 2gb 760.

My PSU is 750W, 4 years old that is running an i5, 16gb ram and 3x WD Blue drives.

I've read on gpuboss that the 770 uses 230W and the 760 4gb uses 250W, while the 2gb 760 "only" 170W. My current card, a ATI HD, is rated according to gpuboss at 108W.

Energy bill factures into the equation (which is why the 2gb 760 is still in the game), but I would also like a card that would run games for at least 2 years at somewhat nice settings.

Which would be the better buy, the 4gb 760 or the 2gb 770? Or is the 2gb 760 still competent enough card (along with smaller power bills) to run games for another 2 years at at least high 1080p resolutions?

Tnx!

look at everything BUT memory amount and wattage

the amount of memory a card has isn't as important as how FAST the card is... more MHz = better, more GB = not always better...

SPEED = good

MHz = GOOD!!!!

more FPS = GOOD!!

more ram = depends...

and in like 30 years of hard use, you might have saved a few $ on your power bill, with the difference in wattage...

none of those cards are good enough for another 2 years... not even my 780 is... with a 780 you already can't run most games maxed out, with less than a 780 970, you'll be running new games on medium settings or less...

also basically a 970 and a 780 are the same speed, the 780 is slightly faster in some cases, and the 970 in others...

for the now, those two cards are really good value, especially if you go on ebay, you can get a 780 for around 100 USD, many 780 users moving to 980s...

No matter what you are getting, WAIT. Nvida announcement is tomorrow. As with pretty much all tech, when the next gen is revealed the old stock prices should take a little hit.

Thanks, guys, for your input, but I need to clarify I am not a millionaire. ;-)

The reason why these 3 cards are the ones I'm choosing between is because they are what I can still afford, the more expensive two cost cca 170 eur. I can't afford to spend 400+ eur on a gfx card and even if I could I'm not sure I would. :)

To sum this all up, get the 770, but wait a few weeks if the prices will go down from this announcement?

if you can find gigabyte gtx 770 oc 2gb, dont think and buy it.

770 is still good card but i recommend you gigabyte design.

it works nearly like 780 with more oc

Thanks for help guys, but again I stress, I am not looking to buy better/more expensive card, so please don't suggest any others unless they cost new up to 160 eur and can be gotten in Europe for that price and can compete with these two.

I'm deciding between these two cards specifically.

Reason: as always, money. These two fit what I'm still willing and able to shell out for a graphics card. I'm not buying new card for better performance in DCS, but because my old card is dying and I need a replacement. I'm also wary of buying used electronics, so I'm looking at new.

I also don't adore DCS or games in general enough to throw out a stupid amount of money on components just to make it play at 5 fps better. So, 970, 980, various OC editions (that cost 200 and up) and all those expensive cards do not even get considered seriously by me. I still have to pay the bills. ;-)

So, thanks for your time and help, but please stay realistic. ;-)

the GTX 770 is VR capable, for things like watching 3d movies and playing games that look like they were made 15 years ago... and is 4k capable in the sense that it can drive a 4k display, but it's WAY too slow to run any modern games at a decent framerate at that res.

and it's not 5 fps difference between a 200$ and a 500$ videocard, it's more like 40 fps difference with the same graphics settings.

unfortunate fact of life, a GTX780 is around 40% slower than a 980ti, a GTX770 is like 30% slower than a 780... the 970 and 780 are basically the same speed...

in other words... where I get 60 fps with my graphics settings, someone with a 770 would only get 40 fps, if that, assuming the game only uses 2gb or less vram...

I'd spend another year saving my pennies and just go buy one that'll last, rather than half-assing it and buying a low-end card now.

actually that's what I am doing, I've been saving up since last august, already have about 2400$ saved up for a new machine, my current one is 4 years old, and I want my next machine to last as long or longer.

nvidia and ati are both starting to show off new tech, there's finally, after 4 years of stale stagnant absolutely nothing new (more accurately nothing leaps faster) videocards, going to be some stuff actually worth spending money on, hopefully later this year.
