Hey flaps seem useless in take off. Is it my impression or it's a bug? When do you retract them?

Thanks!

"once established in the climb"

I usually retract them at 180kts. They're definately doing something because you can watch the TVV drop as they come up.

You will only notice the difference between flap 7 and flap 0 if you actually obey/monitor the rotate and wheels up speeds. ie. At Flap 7 the wheels will lift a bit sooner. This is more true the heavier the plane is. Getting airborne sooner is good.

If you are using long runways and just flooring it to around 150, then pulling back till it lifts, you might as well just use Flap Up.

I believe the retract speed for Flap up is around 170-180kts. They appear to auto retract around 200kts.

Sometimes I forget to extend flaps before take-off and I can definitely tell by the plane's really weird and unexpected behavior when that happens. Like paulca said, the effect is more pronounced the heavier the hog is.

If you're still unsure whether something's wrong, give us something to work with: which version of DCS, which map, which mission, what's your loadout/configuration, wind, rotation speed, airport, temperature, upload a track, you know, something so we don't have to waste 3 hours testing various configurations just to be told later on that you might have gotten it wrong in the first place. :music_whistling:

AFTER TAKEOFF CLIMB

1. Landing Gear - UP. (When safely airborne)

2. Flaps - UP. (10 Knots above takeoff speed)

3. Pitch attitude - Maintain as necessary to accelerate to climb speed.
