Wolf8312 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Damned loving this module more than any so far but the actual flying and landing is certainly the most difficult and I've died many times attempting to land! Now it seems to me there are two ways to land the KA50, the easy way in a similar manner to a plane (long run up on a runway) and the difficult way from a slow perpendicular hover downwards! Sad to say but I cant seem to master the later, and hover down landings tend to send my shark into fatal judder fits. Is this just not a good way to land the shark, and should I just stick to landing it at airports? Its not to say I havent managed these landings a few times but I would appreciate any tips! XCrosser Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Try using Descent mode (d key by default I believe). You have to hold it, but it'll allow you to slowly lower with little to no collective input. I'm not 100% sure what the rate is off the top of my head but it might be just what you need

Slowly lower the collective,with small adjustments to to keep the nose up and the climb rate at 0 as you settle to the deck. Small rudder adjustments as needed to hold it straight. Oh I clear my trims before my hover,I find it helps me if I have the trimmer off/cleared. Ha ha, thanks I will give that a try fellow wolf. Got to say guys I',m blown away by how good DCS world 2 is. With the old engine DCS was still a great program, but the graphics were always something that I found rather distracting and immersion breaking even with mods on. DCS world 2 however is almost as good as it will ever need to be IMO. Ive heard it works very well on VR too though that was only one mans opinion. kilix Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) I almost never land straight down. That takes a lot of time and patience, which I dont have. I am not saying that it is wrong, it can be done and is good for practice and for the feeling of the onset of VRS. You must not descend faster than 2-3m/s, or you are screwed. Landing on a FARP or in a tight spot is better done by utilizing rolling landing method. Approach a FARP while descending and slowing down. You just need to practice, there is no solid method I can write here. Adjust your nose to about +5°, this will help you slow down and descend at about 4-5m/s, start doing this about 500m from FARP, adjust angle and descend rate as required. You should approach FARP at about 30km/h and in stable altitude at about 20-30m. Landing then is a breeze and feels natural (for me atleast). EDIT: when descending while having forward airspeed, you dont need to worry about VRS, so you can descend, say at 10m/s and you are okay, helicopter is stable and controllable. Just make sure, your speed is not below 100km/h when descending that fast. But take a full understanding of coaxial flight dynamics or at least generic helicopter enabling the flight direct mode. To me the Huey module,which hasn't any autopilot, help a lot to get collective, cyclic and wind right!
