3Sqn_Sven Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 For any skinners out there who are looking for a project, it might be worthwhile to have a crack at an IAF F-14. There'd probably be a lot of interest amongst mission builders for an Iranian Tomcat. Never heard of anyone trying one or asking for one, just thought of it then. 3Sqn - Largest distributor of Flanker, Fulcrum and Frogfoot parts in the Black Sea Region
suntrace1 Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Whenever I see someone mention Iranian AF, I get a vision of this movie http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5740802068511003891&q=lock+on+iran
Radar Rider Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 One year ago I make a 45 minutes (416mb) film called "SecretWars_TheMovie_v2.0.wmv" (probably could be found in emule still). It happens in Persian Gulf. You can download some skins I did for it in http://www.alasrojas.com, F-14 is not included. The problem with F-14 IRIAF was that in Lomac this skin is simetric in left and right sides, and up and down too in some areas. You can't made an asimetric skin (like F-14 IRIAF) son in my film left and right use the same skin, and up is different that down side (so I used differents skins for up and down F-14 scenes). It's complicate in this case. Sorry. RRP.
Mustang Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Not quite an IAF F-14 skin for download, rather just some nice pics of it instead (just incase anyone feels like making the skin ;)) http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=65187
Starlight Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 here it is, coupled with the F-4E ;) It's not a great skin. The 3D model of the F-14 is _OLD_, really old. The skin system too. There are stretched, overlapping, mirrored and strange parts in this skin, so it's quite hard to do something really good with camouflaged tomcats :( It also need some reworking on TGA files and/or on the F-14 CMD file, which means you can't fly both the USN and the IRIAF aircraft at the same time, because you need to delete some standard markings (US roundel, MODEX numbers, and US NAVY marking) anyway, this is my attempt, using an old template made by F l a n k e r (I think)
Disso Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Looks great buddy, especialy for such limitations as you mentioned! Could be higher resolution though, rivets and such look blurred. SU-30MKI F/A-18F ...Beauty, grace, lethality.
Starlight Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Looks great buddy, especialy for such limitations as you mentioned! Could be higher resolution though, rivets and such look blurred. this skin is 2048x1024. rivets are not blurred. it's the dirt effect that was included in the template. anyway, the skin is still not finished, and it has serious issues... the whole forward part of the fuselage (the nose) has left and right skins mirrored. it's a problem because "IRIAF" is inverted on one side... the skin for the wings and tailerons is just one, meaning that a single skin (which is duplicated) provides camouflage on left/right/bottom/top parts of the wings and tailerons. This is not noticed if you paint the Tomcat all grey, but if you start camouflaging it... well this skin layout really sucks!!! Com'on ED! 50,000 polys for an APC and the F-14 is left in this shape!!! :(
Starlight Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Some more shots, but still work in progress ;)
Shotsx74 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Nice site Starlight, looks pretty good, how long has it been up? Do you plan on putting in like the news and what not and possibly forums? Sorry for the little hijack.
Starlight Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Nice site Starlight, looks pretty good, how long has it been up? Do you plan on putting in like the news and what not and possibly forums? Sorry for the little hijack. From September 2004.... quite some time now ;) thx I'm glad you like it, and also thanks for your advices. The problem is that I have little spare time now (it was more than one year from the last skin released), and skinning is really time-consuming! anyway thx again mate ;)
Starlight Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 some updates The first one is "Asia minor" camo, the first and also the older camo scheme applied to the Tomcat This is the new low-viz camo scheme, but with a dark blue, I don't think it's correct: And then this should be the correct low-viz current scheme adopted by IRIAF for its F-14 fleet An overall view: Please note some things: everything's still WIP, so there are still some things to be done the skin layout of the tomcat in lockon really *sucks* and makes large use of mirrored skins, which means some things on the paint scheme can't be done like IRL. the shots were taken at a real low screen res due to the basic video card installed on the PC I'm working on. No AA, AF no effects, just the basic 3D quality and here are some sample references:
