Laser Designator Panel - Questions

Referring to: (Ka-50 Flight Manual (.pdf) , page 6-20)

 

When the laser range finder / laser designator mode toggle is set to the laser designator position, what is the function now supposed to be? (Location is immediately below the HSI.)

 

Can the Ka-50 laser a target for incoming laser guided bombs from other aircraft for other aircraft?

 

Ordinance mentioned to be used in this mode are: Kh-25ML, Kh-29L or laser bombs.

 

I have never moved this switch from its default position of laser range finder position and I use the 9A4172 Vikhr missiles with the laser.

Its used for KA-50 to KA-50 Buddylasing with KH25-ML missile and also for single Helicopter equipped with the KH-25ML. Its not a Beamrider missile.

 

The Laser will illuminate the target for about 60 seconds.

In this time the seeker of the missile will be locked to the reflecting laser light which comes from the Target as soon as the missile is going to be selected.

 

Usage with any other DCS Aircraft and Weapon is not impemented yet.

In case of buddylasing, does it take care of the target angle between the Ka50s?

Let's take an extreme condition, two KA50 and a tank in the middle.

Is the illuminated side of the tank visible from the KH25-ML coming from opposite side?

 

Can't wait to try it ASAP.

A KH25ML for a tank is a bit rich. It's usually used against ships. Now I haven't tried to shoot MLs for some time since they modified the FM of this missile that made it almost impossible to use on the KA50. Before, you could shoot the ML while popping up from a hover. Now, if you do that, it seems like the missile is going straight to the ground as it needs a few hundred meters height and high initial speed (like top ka50 cruise speed). ED claimed that this is the real ML behavior and they won't go back.

Its DCS and i havent tested it for a while. Maybe the behavior did get better with the A-10C Module or 1.5/2.0 .

Yeah :noexpression: but its still a nice to have feature so..... lets hope.

I'd find it far more interesting to be able to perform buddy lasing for fixed-wing aircraft on bomb delivery, assuming that's something that could be done in real life.
