TomCatMucDe Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Hello fellow Gazelle pilots, I was wondereding if it was possible to override the launch persmission of HOT3 missiles to, for example shoot another chopper. to shoot longer than the 4.3 km the workaround is fairly simple, point to a closer point and then guide the missile beyond that distance. However, if you want to shoot in the air you can get the LA at all, an override feature is needed. Does the real Gazelle have it? Cheers!
dimitriov Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Unfortunately no, you don't have such system on the Gazelle. Nicolas
MBot Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) I am still very confused by the range dependent launch authorization. It should be impossible for the FCR to calculate range to target without using the laser range finder, since it doesn't know target elevation. If you can't calculate a value, why should you use it to inhibit a weapons launch? Edited May 9, 2016 by MBot 1
microvax Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 It probably just estimates slant range to level ground. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?
MBot Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 It probably just estimates slant range to level ground. Probably, but use this inherently faulty methode of range determination to allow or prevent weapon launch? Even preventing a launch while your very precise laser ranger finder confirms you are in range? Then why did they bother to even install a laser range finder? I simply can't belive this is how the real Gazelle works.
dimitriov Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Viviane was recreated by using several documentations (I.E: Not Wikipedia). We don't ask you to believe us, but well... It works like this ;) The laser range finder is purely indicative for the crew, in order to give them ranges to targets for recon or preparing a HOT attack. I must verify, but I think there is a second laser used by the camera itself. Nicolas Edited May 9, 2016 by dimitriov
TomCatMucDe Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 Well I believe you Dimitriov :) However, I don't think it's only indicative, it does prevent launch permission if the calculated range is too big.
MBot Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I must verify, but I think there is a second laser used by the camera itself. That would explain some things, though it sounds like a very unusual arrangement (it would mean the laser is running constantly). I would appreciate it if you could check your documents regarding the details. On the topic of Viviane it would also be interesting to know how the sight is able to stabilize on a ground point without having any input on own helicopter movement (doppler turned off).

I believed that was done by image processing? I had the camera not stabalize to the ground when the IR was not warmed up yet? That could be a coincidence as well though. Pat01 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 The camera code is planned to be reworked to fit how it behaves in real closer. As soon as we get more reliable infos, it will be done.

My guess is a combination of G meter + Doppler
Yurgon Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 The laser range finder is purely indicative for the crew, in order to give them ranges to targets for recon or preparing a HOT attack. I must verify, but I think there is a second laser used by the camera itself. Wouldn't that second laser set off any laser warning systems on the target? And BTW, does the ranging laser set them off? I tried to check that with a Ka-50 in MP but didn't manage to keep her stabilized in my sight. Maybe next weekend, though.
