fitness88 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 In real world would a fighter plane be allowed to have scratches all over its canopy glass? Considering how hard it is to see other planes at a distance I would think a clean and blemish free canopy glass would be the norm. Thank you.

Svend_Dellepude Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Never used it either but my guess is that it will make a lens flare effect when looking towards the sun. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
pr1malr8ge Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Here is the thing, while scratches do occur and I'm sure that if it is a distraction to the pilot it will be dealt with. How ever you need to keep in mind that when someone looks out a window their eye is focusing way past where the glass is and in doing so essentially becomes invisible. In the game since you're eye is focusing on the screen[display] and cannot focus past the canopy per se it makes it appear worse then what it would be in real life. 1 For the WIN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]If your desired effect on the target is making the pilot defecate his pants laughing then you can definitely achieve it with a launch like that.

Does it make it better with CV1 then? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
VIKBELL Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 There are several thing that cause to windscreen or canopy... There is crazing:When crazing occurs, each speck of damage to the exterior surface scatters the light waves in all directions, making it increasingly difficult to see through the windscreen. Scratches, pits, chips and crazing create stress risers in the surface of the windshield, leading to the growth and propagation of the damage through the window material. The damage can reach a point at which it exceeds the aircraft manufacturer’s limit and the window will need to be replaced. Certain chemical damage and of course lighting and bird strikes... 1 There are 2 categories of fighter pilots: those who have performed, and those who someday will perform, a magnificent defensive break turn toward a bug on the canopy. mvsgas Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) In real world would a fighter plane be allowed to have scratches all over its canopy glass? Considering how hard it is to see other planes at a distance I would think a clean and blemish free canopy glass would be the norm. Thank you. It may look like scratches, but likely is just crazing. Depending where the scratches or crazing or other damage may be it could be allowed, depending on the aircraft. You would not only have crazing or scratches, you will also have bugs and pilots smudges as they like to put their hands on the cockpit. They are marks where their helmet hit the canopy. Mechanics try to clean this but some time is hard and other time the only way to remove it is by polishing the canopy. Some aircraft have coatings (e.i. F-117) so what you could do to clean it was limited. example of a brand new canopy being installed http://media.defense.gov/2012/Feb/21/2000177023/-1/-1/0/120219-F-QF982-025.JPG canopy with angle sun light to see normal crazing http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=862674 http://media.defense.gov/2016/Feb/05/2001340626/-1/-1/0/160201-F-EB935-005.JPG other examples http://media.defense.gov/2015/Dec/09/2001323708/-1/-1/0/151130-F-CX842-107.JPG http://archive.defense.gov/dodcmsshare/newsphoto/2008-07/hires_080603-F-5957S-169.jpg http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=862664&size=lg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E_s4k8uMNrA/T-4vBmZe1rI/AAAAAAAAEGg/KCsyQUhrLoY/s1600/f16_falcon_kokpit.jpg Edited May 14, 2016 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. fitness88 Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Thanks all for the info also for the great links.
Wolverine88 Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 if my canopy ever looked anything like that, with that much 'crazing' I'd have it changed out the next phase dock that it went to...or directly as soon as a canopy showed up in supply. Especially if it looked THAT bad! The other thing that would happen would be a 'de-lamination' where the layers in the plastic would get air in between them...also a 'no bueno' by the Tech-data. pr1malr8ge Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 ^ jets generaly are not assigned to 1 pilot. Therefor all a pilot can do is note it on his sign off[squak] sheet when he returns the plane or he can just refuse to fly it and either get in another plane or not fly or be told to fly it regardless by his CO For the WIN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]If your desired effect on the target is making the pilot defecate his pants laughing then you can definitely achieve it with a launch like that.
