So I'm flying along in Campaign Mission 2: Hauling Trash, not a problem in the world. I'm told my LZ has red smoke to signify it. I'm looking around. I don't see it. At all.

Here's the problem: It's night. Or too early in the morning. They might as well be using 'midnight colored smoke' because I'm not going to bloody see it as it's, you know Too Bloody Dark.

Is there a 'advance time of day' keyboard command that I've been previously unaware of? Some sort of special equipment in the heli that allows me to see red smoke in the dark?

Any help would be most ...helpful.

Rshift + H will bring them up

Ralt/Rctrl + Rshift + H will adjust the gain for different light intensity

Is this from the UN Pilot campaign?

The campaign was released in an older version of DCS. When the graphics engine received its massive overhaul in 1.5, nights became a fair bit darker and it takes a lot longer for the sun to light everything up. I guess the original mission took place in a beautiful sunrise, and was just never adjusted to the changed environment.

I agree with NixNB, just activate your NVGs, that should be a good way to work around the problem.

Note: The Sunrise/sunset times are wrong in DCS 1.5.3 and occur approx. 2 hr's later than they should (and 1.2.16).

If you wish to play Mission 2 with it's intended/original lighting you may want to open the mission in the editor and adjust the start time.

The same is true for

Still more missions in this campaign with the same problem. The complete list is:

2, 6, 11, 13 & 14.

as listed in post #6 of this thread

My forays into the Mission Editor have always been ...frustrating. I'll stick with the current work-around and wait patiently for a fix from DCS...

I won't hold my breath while I wait, however.
