Mt5_Roie Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 So my CV1 is giving me a black screen so I'm working with support and forums to hopefully fix that. So in the meantime, I figured I'd go back to flying with the DK2. But since the Oculus Home has been out, not sure how to get the DK2 working again. Anyone know what runtime I need to get to make it work? I want to use it to fly in DCS already....I need my VR fix. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Shabi Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 The latest should work no? I was running it a few weeks ago with Oculus home and it was fine. Oculus CV1, i7 4790k @ stock, gtx 1080ti @ stock, 32gb PC3-19200 @ 2.4ghz, warthog & saitek pedals, razer tartarus chroma.
Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 Can you check your runtime version? My oculus home detects it ok, but nothing displays on it. I'm beginning to suspect the runtime is messing with my graphic card. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
SkateZilla Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 HDMI or DVI? alot of CV1s are having issues with cables coming undone or bad pins in the connectors. some GPUs dont put out enough voltage through the HDMI port to kic the screens on. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 With the DK2 just tried HDMI...and without the runtime it works as you can see the desktop. For the CV1 I tried HDMI, DisplayPort, and DVI....you can read my whole woes on this thread: https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/37425/black-screen-on-oculus-rift-cv1 The more testing I do the more I'm leaning towards a issue with the latest runtime and the 980 series cards. SkateZilla Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) Yes, the 980s dont play nice with Rifts, The HDMI on the Rift is not built to spec, so when the HDMI port doesnt put out a strong enough signal, it doesnt light up the screens. Alot of users had to like jury rig solutions. as for adapters: https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/29713/just-to-confirm-displayport-and-dvi-adapters-do-work Edited June 3, 2016 by SkateZilla Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 I have that second adapter that is HDMI->DVI. But the first one I had a different version of it. At this point not sure if I should try another adapter. So since the 980s seem to be having issues, is there any comparable graphics card you can recommend to replace it with? While not happy about having to replace the graphics card, I need something that will work. My criteria is to replace 80% of my computer every two years (cpu, motherboard, graphic card)....I've already spent quite a bit on on getting the machine ready for VR. I still suspect it's something in the runtime version....just from a programmers perspective. Would love to figure how how to roll it back to an older version to verify my hunch. SkateZilla Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I cannot say as I run AMD, and we have our share of issues with The Latest Oculus Runtimes. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 I'll just have to wait until they update the runtime with a fix hopefully. Still trying to find how to downgrade to the older runtime. Might do a deeper search after work. I cannot say as I run AMD, and we have our share of issues with The Latest Oculus Runtimes. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester

Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 I've wiped that folder so many times in uninstalling and re-installing it there isn't anything there anymore. But yeah, would be nice to kill that auto-update feature. Do you know where the changelogs for the runtime? Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 That would make sense...it probably didn't get to my machine until the weekend (since I don't keep it on unless I'm flying). So assuming the next time I booted it up it upgraded it - that would fall into when the issues started. Seems like even people on that thread were starting to report the issue. Btw, have you seen this: [ame] [/ame] AMD is saying they are going to make a VR capable video card for 200. SkateZilla Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Yes, I Follow AMD's Stuff religiously, half the time Im at their events, I just couldn't afford to travel this year, Im Likely gonna Get the RX-480 as a Stop Gap to use until Vega w/ HBM2 and Zen are out. I Need to replace my Lightnings, no HDMI Ports, lol. And I can get 2 and XFire them and use about the same amount of TDP as 1 Lightning GPU. SkateZilla Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) June 29th, Im hoping AIB Partners Get their Cooling Solutions out soon after and I want an 8GB Version. 3 DP's also means I can continue to run my Monitors for Studio stuff w/ Rift on the HDMI. SkateZilla Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) What Brand 980? i know alot of people w/ issues w/ the eVGA Brand 980s called eVGA and got theirs replaced. Also Did you try unplugging and re-seating the cable on the HMD itself? They seem to wiggle loose, especially when used w/ walking around. Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 Yeah I have the evga GeForce gtx 980. Never had any issues with it and loved it so far. Seems like even the 980 ti are having the black issue as well. So wonder if I should check the evga forums as well. SkateZilla Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) See my Edit: Check the Cable where it attached to the HMD, The Otter Foam Ring should come off and expose their Combined HDMI/USB Connector. (Mainly Pictures in Step 3) They have been notorious for coming unplugged when used while standing / walking or if yanked (ie cord slips behind your back between body and chair and your lean or look and yank it, then take it off and set it down cable will unplug) Edited June 3, 2016 by SkateZilla Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Mt5_Roie Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 Posted on EVGA forums about it...see if they have a cure. I did the unplug and re-plug while working with the support guy (while he was still emailing). Seems like its connected well. It gets the orange light when plugged into USB power....so I'm assuming something is connected to turn that on. DerekSpeare Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 FWIW, I have had cabling problems with my DK2 due to pulling on them. I replaced everything and have anchored all of the DK2 cables to my case with zip ties to prevent stain on the ports. I also have an EVGA 980ti card and it's quite good; solid performance. *touching wood* I hope you get it all sorted out, Roi! wormeaten Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 SkateZilla. Do you know something about DCS performance in CF? RX 480 8GB for 230$ looks compelling. Low power consumption, just one 6pin power connection prows it. Everyone could build easily two card in the rig without need for new PSU. Question is how this will work in DCS on DX11 because RX 480 2x in CF outperform 1080 or Titan but in DX12 where AMD have advantage by default because DX12 Mantle based technology. What is the DCS performance gain in CF comparing with single GPU or SLI in percentage?
