Get the Warthog now, and latter - when available - pick the Gunfighter for use their base as upgrade for Warthog. :)

I have to agree, the Thrustmaster now, then when the Gunfighter hits the market and waiting times drop to something like reasonable, make the leap to the next gen.

From the X55, you will see a huge leap forward with the Thrustmaster and extension tubes. Bear in mind that the extension reduces the "sticktion" to much more acceptable levels, though naturally the VKB gimbal will be the ultimate answer.

I'm biding my time, and currently have the Thrustmaster, 30 cm of extension tubes, and Crosswind pedals. Do I want to improve it - hell yeah - but right now, VKB stuff is just inaccessible realistically speaking.

Using the Thrustmaster stick with the VKB base, and pairing it with the Thrustmaster throttle unit seems to me the logical choice and also suggests you ought to go down the Thrustmaster route, and reckoning on an upgrade again in 12-18 months would presumably be a realistic assumption to me.

Where did you get the 30cm extension from? Here the longest appears to be 20cm http://warthog-extensions-by-sahaj.com/product-category/extensions/standards/

I agree with Sokol. The Warthog is just a very complete solution. You will be happy with a complete HOTAS, and the Gunfighter base will be a welcome upgrade.

Just wanted to toss this in here as well - the VKB Mamba MkIII plus extension (same will be available for the Gunfighter) sitting on a custom mount on my Obutto Ozone. Working beautifully! The extension adds a wider throw, but the minute corrections and more precise control make up for that in spades. Needless to say, DCS helos and warbirds benefit the most from it.

Now I am waiting for VKB to sell more TM Warthog adapters... ;)

Throw is one thing that I had not considered. For the 20 cm or 30 cm extension, how much room is need to go from maximum forward to maximum aft? That is, how much clearance will I need between my chair and my desk (assuming that the top of the stick is going to be too high to clear under the desk)? I can see that without a gaming seat, this might be an issue.

In my case, the 20cm extension's throw comes to ~13.5 inches (measured at the top of the stick, full deflection left to right, and the same goes for the front to aft movements).

That's quite a lot when you have to consider a desk in that setup; I couldn't do it without that dedicated seat arrangement that the Obutto offers.

I have a 10" extension, I did use it without modifying the springs for a while but I wanted more force so have customised mine and added springs on the outside.

Hi BIGNEWY,

Would you mind sharing images of this, and/or details of the type of spring and how it was attached?

Hi RRohde,

Can I confirm with you that when you say the throw is ~13.5 inches, you mean from extreme to extreme? And not from center to extreme (so that the full throw from extreme to extreme is actually ~27 inches)?

Thanks for the PM Bearfoot,

as requested some pictures of my stick setup.

Basically, it is some mechano brackets, springs, and a jubilee clip, tidied up with a ford focus gear stick cover.

Works well for me, I like to have some force behind the stick as I am a big chap :)
