I experience a limp joystick (no centering forces at all) when I fire the Gazelle up; which makes it extremely difficult to control an already skittish FM (I know the FM is still being tweaked ... incidently; will this FM ever upgrade to the PFM?).

**Note** that my js works perfectly with all other modules.

I've tried the various tuning options via FF Tune in the Controller settings for this module on the off chance that it may have been designed differently but to no avail ... my stick stays limp.

Now with the Huey (for example), the only time I experience the "limp stick syndrome" is when I invoke Force Trim but centering forces firm up as soon as I exit that mode. In other words, it works as intended.

I've searched for similar functionality in the Gazelle but I can't seem to find it.

Any help appreciated.

FF is not implemented yet in Gazelle. Personally, I'm waiting for it to be done before I buy it.

Ah, thanks! That explains it then.

Note: As a temporary solution (until FFB is implemented) you can run simFFB after loading the Gazelle to provide a centring spring force.

Ah tried this but the program crashes for me (Windows 10) ... tried the 64bit version first then tried the 32bit, then tried both in Win 7 compatibility mode.

But it can't be set up to hold the stick in trim position, right?

simFFB by default, assigns a button for force trim/mag brake that sets the collective/FFB joystick centre to a new position when pressed.

However, the Gazelle Collective Magnetic Brake must NOT be assigned at the same time, as it assumes a spring centred joystick and will add a 'virtual offset' to the FFB's 'real offset'.

As the Gazelle's cyclic is so sensitive, I normally use the trim hat which ATM doesn't effect FFB centre and don't take advantage of simFFB's ability to redefine the centre position because the required changes are very small.

My simFFB settings are 50% force, 0% Damping, 0% friction with 50% saturation on X and Y axis, 80% saturation on the twist axis (rudder/yaw) in DCS's axis settings.

Ok, using simffb (it's the file from Jazzerman's post - thanks) and it's working for me in DCS 1.5. Haven't tried in 2 yet.

Works a treat thanks guys! By golly the Gazelle is a feisty lass! Makes my old Huey feel venerable and staid :).

Do the choppers all get to be PFM eventually?

No.

PFM (Professional Flight Model) is the term used by ED to describe their advanced flight model.

EFM (External Flight Model) is the term used to describe third party advanced flight models.

What forces and moments are applied to this rigid body from aerodynamics and any other sources except the contact forces is up to EFM developer.

AFAIK PFM/EFM does not determine the quality or how accurate a flight model is. That is done through having the simulation/FM 'signed off' by 'real' pilots, etc. and ED's own beta testers.

There is no "SFM" for Helicopters in DCS. All Helicopters have a PFM/EFM by design.

What Polychop currently does, is adjust the axis sensitivity and fix some "bugs" like skids ground friction, etc.

Though as with a real Gazelle it will be twitchy and require veeeery sensitive and small control inputs. Especially compared to the Huey.

It helps a lot to reduce axis saturation to compensate for a short/normal Joystick.

Got that, thanks Shagrat.

I'm liking the DCS choppers a lot, especially the Huey, she's really special. I fly mostly bush planes + choppers in X-Plane but never really got into DCS helicopters until very recently after I downloaded the NTTR terrain :).

I'm tossing up whether to get the Mi-8; which means I'll probably convince myself I should ... eventually.
