ariyaner Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 hi pilots :pilotfly: i have dk2 oculus my problem are the big black stripes on each site of my oculus screen so my view is limited i mean i read something here to fix it - but i cant found it anymore and now my other big problem every trackir user now how easy it is to check own 6 just move your head 30° and you see your six i REALY would like to see that feature in vr i need years to check my 6 and go back maybe im old - dont know  dont tell me something about motion sickness i wana see my six :music_whistling:
Kuky Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Look, don't feel bad about not being able to easily check six, real pilots have same issue, and they also have heavy G loads to cope as well. Just think of it as simply more realistic way to fly, and need bit of adjustment in the way you fly... before you merge think how to position yourself to be able to see the other guy easier... how to track him easier. If things go good with VR and I presume it will as headsets get higher resolution and more people adopt it, TrackIR users will eventually die out. In fact, if they implemented something like that, I'm pretty sure you'll barf because the brain will get confused. What helps if you have something you can hold on to in the front to help you twist (just like real pilots). hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
cichlidfan Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I think the OP is missing the point of VR. The R stands for Reality. As hansangb stated, if such movement scaling were implemented it would cause motion sickness in almost every user, which is one of the things that every VR vendor is trying to eliminate. The short answer is that it will never happen with the vendor supplied software as it would be a step backward. If you don't like having to move your head as you would in real life then VR is not for you. SkateZilla Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I doubt you see any options to remove 1:1 6DoF Tracking from HMD (Rift/Vive), As it would cause some serious nausea. Gman109 Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 (edited) I posted a bit about this in another thread. Good points here, about the reality part, but the reality of gaming is that online if you're using VR you're at a massive disadvantage fighting vs trackIR or thumbhat pilots. I was getting beat by guys I normally demolish online using VR, mainly because they can a: see me further away, b: determine my aspect more clearly, quickly, and further away, and c: are able to rapidly check 360 around their environment when on the defensive or just flying about, meaning less surprise attacks/ambushes, or at least spotting them far enough off to incorporate a defensive maneuver. It is a fair point though, that VR is more realistic, it's hard in a cockpit to turn around and look behind you, try it if you ever sit in a plane at an airshow or at a museum, but again, the reality is for online competitors, you're going to get smoked by equally skilled pilots, and less skilled ones, if they are competent with trackIR and you're using VR. I think one simple solution to this issue for online pilots is for servers to eventually, once enough players have VR, create VR only environments where VR pilots can join and know they are only fighting against those with VR sets as well, levelling the playing field. Regarding nausea and motion sickness - I don't know if it's the years I spent looking through IR and NVGs, but I don't feel a lick of this at all, I can hit look back/rear in DCS in VR and switch back and forth between forward/rear view and look around in VR and not get the slightest bit of nausea/motion sickness. Nor have I experiences it yet, ever, in any other game. MacThai_75 Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 (edited) Once again the term 'reality" in VR raises it's head (pun intended). ;) In real life pilots don't have the (IMHO: comparatively 'arcade like') advantage that TIR, thumhat and multi-screens allows in the sim. But for the time being ... that's an artificial advantage that they have. If we want to take on others on a level field, we really need to fly TIR with TIR, and VR with VR. Unless you might feel that going VR to TIR is sharpening your skills, then really whats the point of mixing the two? Maybe it's getting to be time to start thinking about having/hosting formal separate on-line arenas that are for each. (???) IMHO, that would make it more apples/apples.
