I'm considering buy BS2 but I'd like to ask you a question first. Is in this mod some sort of difficulty settings? I mean how many things you must know/do to be able to do/kill something. For example cold start and take off. I watched some vids and there are quite a few buttons you need to press in correct order. Let's say I don't want to learn use of every button available and don't want to know every system perfectly. I fly FC3 where models are quite simple. When you want to cold start there are about 5 steps to do, not 50. It fits me quite well. Is there a way to achieve similar level of control dificulty in BS2?

Well it is an in depth sim with the modeling of the KA-50, but it is also very rewarding to learn how to fly and fight in it as well.

No you do not necessarily have to know what every button does, but certainly the more you know the more comfortable you will be in it.

Regarding the cold start, it does look intimidating at first, but I took the time to learn it and once I had it down it is fairly easy to do.

But there is also the auto-start option as well, WIN key + Home.

I thoroughly enjoy flying the BS, and whilst I own several modules it is still currently the only one I am actively flying in DCS right now. But really as with most of the modules in DCS, they are pretty in-depth and have a bit of a learning curve to go along with them.

Have a look at Chuck's KA-50 Tutorial:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-uSpZROuEd3U1VZWWNBam9ZdDg/view?pref=2&pli=1

He covers the essentials very well and it will give you a good idea at what you are looking at, without trying to digest the entire KA-50 User Manual to figure it out.

Use the quick start (win home key) for the Ka50

Sort of like the FC3 startup.

The amount of Hotas commands for Ka50 are not that much

different to what you need for FC3.

So you can quickly get up and be flying around fairly quickly.

Then you can if you wish to, dig into all the systems and learn what all

those switches do!:noexpression:

The Ka50 trimming system is properly the hardest to get use to

but once you get it, the thing fly's itself if you want it to:)

Fun aircraft to learn and I do go back to the Ka50 from time to time

Note: You will need to be able to startup the Ka50 on some multiplayer servers

Once you do it 50 times you'll be right....:music_whistling:

Thank you guys for replies. You actually made me happy. I will buy it when I'll get some free time to spare for it. I don't play MP as I'm scared to meet some real pilots :) I believe I will learn all of it eventually but I don't want to care about all this stuff from the beginning. I like to make things easy at first and then making them more difficult as time passes and my experience grows. So final question: there is "arcade" checkbox in options. How does it change behaviour of Ka50 or it's controls?

Pro-tip, coming from a guy who knew absolutely nada at the beginning: start in Simulation mode straight away. There isn't much of a difference. Once you've got the start-up procedure memorized, you're going to be amazed to see how easy everything becomes. Arcade really doesn't bring much to the table.

I usually need to practice a start-up 5 to 10 times before I start memorizing it by myself.

I would strongly suggest creating a start up check list. It will help you speed up the learning process. You can also create checklist for weapons deployment and any other function of the aircraft. Use the training range to practice and take your time, learning to fly it is part of the fun,

Don't be afraid of multiplayer. You will meet some great people there who are more than willing to help and teach you. That will certainly accelerate your experience factor.

Took me about a year to get fairly good with it---full sim mode, not game mode. I am self taught. I learned flying on Multiplayer. My first helicopter study-sim. I have most of the modules, every bit as difficult as the A-10C. They are the best 2 aircraft in the game. Some days, still get shot down a fair amount, flying too aggressively and too close.

I usually start-up using auto-start. BUT, it is very helpful when you get shot up and systems go down to know what each switch, etc. does!

When I get shot up and hydraulics are going down, I fire up the APU as auxiliary power in-flight RTB, it seems to help.

I learned a lot flying with Cooper --- see Message # 6, above, on the old S-77th Tasmanian server.

is now a UK server in 1.5 MP. : http://www.maddog-simulations.com/forum-78.html

Lately been using the F99th's server in MP on 2.0 , very well thought out real-time combat missions that are usually challenging and very much fun : http://f99th.com/

With any new aircraft, I am currently learning the "Gazelle" , creating a workable controlers profile is every bit as challenging as learning the aircraft. I have CH Products gear and use the CH Control Manager. Here is Ghost's Dummies' Guide to help simplify the process (.pdf), to get an idea of the complexity of the process :

and Bob Church's original: http://www.stickworks.com/contents.htm

I borrowed 104th's Crunch's profile (with his best wishes) for the Ka-50; his profile is very well thought out :

and

I have modified this profile a little bit. If you decide to get the gear and use the profile, just ask, my username here.

I bought the module. I created a fast mission just try to flight. Goal was to take off, fly a circle around airfield and land. On arcade for first time. Unlike in FC3 there is arade mode pretty big deal. You can actually probably play it just on keybord with it. Too easy even for me. So I created another fast mission on simulation. And ... well game was nice to me. It generated thunderstorm weather for me. Yet I managed took off, do a circle and even land without breaking anything on the machine (*clap* *clap*). I had in mind words of one of youtuber I was watching: "be gentle". Seems to be a good advice!

But from this point .... well I still only wondering about something. "Why it does this, I don't want you doing this!", "Come on, why do you turning arond over and over for no reason?", "Hey, why does RPM get under critical level? I can't even maintain the altitute with such low power..." and so on.

Actually that last thing I really wish to someone answer for me. I know why it happen. When I'm not very gentle with collective the RPM drops. But I don't know how to fix it. Becase since every time I raise collective above ~50% RPM drops below critical limit. Manipulation with throttle itself seem to have no effect. I even tried to land and shut it completly off, then start it back again with no effect. Is it permanently damaged?

Congrats and good job, yes just keep flying in simulation mode.

Set the throttle to the auto position and leave it, no need to move it any more.

Work on your collective inputs and using the trimmer for the turns.

Have fun!

If you need any help with the KA-50, be sure to check out The Black Shark Den. We are a V-squadron dedicated to co-operative helicopter operations. The group is small right now, but we have several pilots with over a thousand hours on the KA-50 (myself included), and one of our members just recently got his wings on the real-world UH-60 (Eagle). I'm presently not with my sim hardware (travelling until next weekend), but all the guys at BSD will be more than happy to provide any manner of hands-on training you may desire.

Whatever your decision, though, welcome to the club, I hope you enjoy your time as a DCS rotorhead. :)

Thank you guys. I appreciate your offer :) Unfortunatelly I have some issues with lack of free time lately :( I will consider joining you should it get any better in the future. Good luck until then :)
