Ralphk Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Hey folks, i decided to try the F-5E yesterday so i went into a free flight and i noticed that the roll rate was super sensitive and fast... i had to almost flatten up the curve of the joystick but still it was there... is it normal with this aircraft compared to others?:joystick:

I showed him some videos from Belsimtek F-5 and he was impressed with the FM, even not having the chance of flying the sim one, he told me that the landing seems very similar to the real one. Even modernized, our F-5's still have the same flight characteristics of the non-modernized version, only the avionics (incluinding new radar and HOTAS), also some structural upgrades, apart from that they still F-5 Tigers, even the start up still the same since there's no space for a APU. Ralphk Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 It would be interesting if your friend can try the F-5E for us and give us his feedback...
gospadin Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Note also roll rate changes significantly based on the mass of the airplane. With no armament and low fuel, it's hyper maneuverable. With a full payload, it's pretty docile. My liveries, mods, and missions for DCS:World M-2000C English Cockpit | Extra Beacons Mod | Nav Kneeboard | Community A-4E
WindyTX Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 T-38 was 720 degrees a second at full deflection. I assume as the airframe are very similar that the F5 will be about the same with no weapons. Dino Might Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 There is a stick option to override the aileron roll limiter or some such (not sure what it's called). Is this just to override the dampener, or is it to work the ailerons past their stops and get a faster roll rate? I could see this being useful if the latter. Just wondering if anyone is using this regularly, and am I missing out on not having any idea about its use?
Azazel Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Dino! I mapped the limiter last night to my HOTAS and yes! it definitively helps improve her roll rate in certain envelopes. I tested it at high speed where the roll rate gets sluggish, big improvement. Haven't tried at low speed yet. It's not a button on the stick per se, it's just a "gimmick" that simulates additional force being applied on the stick to override the aileron limiter for users who do not have a force-feedback stick. In the real aircraft, you will feel a certain resistance in the stick for ailerons when you reach about half-stick-travel. If you force the stick, you will override the aileron limiter and be able to reach full-stick-travel. In DCS, just hold the "Aileron Limiter Off" control (I think it's mapped to "L" by default) and you'll be able to reach full aileron deflection. It's explained in my F-5 guide, just search "Aileron" and you'll find it easily. Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon

Ralphk Posted August 4, 2016 Author Posted August 4, 2016 I am using my FFB G940 logitech and this thing was spinning like crazy? should i do anything special?
autogyro Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) I am using my FFB G940 logitech and this thing was spinning like crazy? should i do anything special? Did you remember to turn on pitch and yaw dampers? Edited August 5, 2016 by autogyro
Ralphk Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 actually it was a free flight, so i guess those should be turned on by default?
