EDT Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) So I've decided that I want to upgrade my GPU and go for the green team this time. My question is for which one I should get? The gigabyte G1 gaming 1070 or for the exact same price here in Denmark, the last generation EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid. I know it's only a slight upgrade from my current setup, but this is due to a pretty good deal atm on both cards, and I feel like it'll be worth it for me. cichlidfan Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Get the 1070. There are lots of comparisons out there for you to peruse. For example... http://www.pcgamer.com/geforce-gtx-1070-performance-preview/ ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Rangi Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 The 1070 uses about 25% less power as well. PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.
Konovalov Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 I just upgraded to a GTX1070 from a GTX970 which had ran things ok on my 1440p display. Now with the 1070 eye candy has been increased and minimum frames have increased. This is the perfect card for 1440p at 60hz or 100hz refresh rates. Get the 1070 over the older architecture 980Ti. Uses less power, extra 2GB VRAM, and the slightly faster in most tests. Also compared to my old Gigabyte GTX970 G1 Gaming the fans on my 1070 only spin up under load when temps hit 60 C plus. The only argument that may have convinced me to pick up a 980Ti was if it was 30% or less price wise compared to a GTX1070. I snapped up a Gainward GTX1070 Phoenix Goes Like Hell (GLH) edition for AUD 669 here in Australia. It's factory overclock is greater than anything else currently on the market without the price compared to the major names Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte and MSI. Only problem with the Gainward is that it does not look the best and it takes up 2.5 slots. EDT Posted September 24, 2016 Author Posted September 24, 2016 Thanks you for the replies guys. I pulled the trigger on the ASUS strix 1070 and it is so good. Huge improvement moving from AMD to NVidia in DCS. Sadly I broke my TM warthog the day after I installed the card so I've Bern somewhat grounded... -_- Asus Maximus Hero VIII - 6700K @4.7GHz cooled by a Fractal Design Kelvin S36 - Asus Strix GTX 1080 8GB - 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz RAM - Samsung 850 Pro 240GB SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD - WD RED 3 TB HDD - TM Warthog HOTAS - VPC T-50 stick and base - Baur BRD-F1 rudder pedals - Oculus rift CV1
