seanlister1 Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Okay so the way I understood it was that 1.5 will be coming before 2.0 (obviously) but for 2.0 it says that the NTTR map, this got me thinking will DCS World split into two different games as at this current stage it seems as if the only way you can play 2.0 is if you have the NTTR map. Also what even is the differences between 1.5 and 2.0 and has there been any rough times of a full release or any vague hints as to when we can expect it to come out given to us?

funkyfranky Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Well, once upon a time, there was only one version, i.e. 1.2, of DCS. This was supposed to be updated to version 2.0 with two major improvements: a) a new graphics engine called EDGE and b) a new map technology (named T4). NTTR is already in T4 format while the Caucasus map is in the old format T3. IIRC, there were some problems (or at least it is very time consuming) converting the Caucasus map to the new T4 standard. Therefore, ED decided to release two separate versions of DCS. - version 1.5, which has the new graphics engine EDGE and the Caucasus map in T3 - version 2.0, which has EDGE and Nevada in T4. This one is an alpha release and you can only use it, if you have purchased the NTTR map. Once the Caucasus is converted from T3 to T4, there will be only one united DCS again, which sails under the flag of version 2.5. This will have EDGE plus Caucasus and Nevada in T4. I think the current aim is to release it by the end of this year. But things can change obviously ;) 1 A warrior's mission is to foster the success of others. i9-12900K | RTX 4090 | 128 GB Ram 3200 MHz DDR-4 | Quest 3 RAT - On the Range - Rescue Helo - Recovery Tanker - Warehouse - Airboss

I thought in the past was there a thread that ED shall release things earlier in Open Beta then in the release version. It was mentioned in the past. Today the day 14 september there is no difference between the release version and the Open Beta version. Guys i juist don't get it! You have a Open Beta or not. So can we delete the Open Beta? Because there is no difference and gives us back our storage on pc, or ED release futere things in Open Beta. Yurgon Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Sorry to ask, but why is there no difference between the release version DCS 1.5 and DCS 1.5 Open Beta. New features for 1.5 typically get released into Open Beta first, and if no showstoppers are encountered, they'll be released to 1.5 Release version a week later. However, that's just the typical scenario, but it's also possible that bugfixes get released to both versions simultaneously, or that there's simply nothing new so that both versions will be at the same level. Anyway. You only need the Open Beta if you wish to test new features as soon as possible. If you don't want to Beta test, just don't install the Open Beta at all, you really don't need it. And nowadays, they're hardly ever more than a week apart (when the Open Beta was first released, it was way beyond the release version at the time, and remained so for several weeks, if not months, IIRC). Long story short, uninstall the Open Beta, you don't currently need it.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted September 14, 2016 ED Team Posted September 14, 2016 As Yurgon has kindly pointed out, currently patches happen quickly and without any show stoppers get pushed to the release version quickly. Just use the release version if you wish, if you ever want the beta again, if the versions are different long enough for example it is a simple matter of installing it again. I am currently running 7 versions :) Forum rules - DCS Crashing? I know some people who use this method, and they can switch between these versions in a matter of minutes. I am currently running 7 versions :) Yeah, I know a few translators who have that problem as well (not sure if 7 versions, but definitely more than the 3 public ones that I have). ;)
boedha68 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Thank you guys. I am happy enough with the answers that are given. Now i know that only quality counts to ED for public. I saw earlier on the account of Matt that there are much more things in testing, then there are on public.
