Rangi Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 It's not just the regulars who come to the forum, if a new player or potential buyer hears about a module they might like to buy, they may come to the forums to see what everyone is saying about it. If all they see is negativity and complaints a sale may be lost, I don't blame the devs for wanting to limit that possibility. PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.

TomOnSteam Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 I think being quiet is mostly due to there being a chance the module may get cancelled at any point during development for a variety of reasons. So it's best to keep it quiet until the beta phase. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cockpit Spectator Mode

TomOnSteam Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 The problem with the spoons of bits is the same as with any information. A video snippet or WIP render pic gets ripped apart anal-yzed and rubbed into the face of the developer instantly. People claim to see "errors in the 3D-modelling" that needs fixing, rant about texture quality, missing bits on the model... And they make assumptions about the release date of course, as the render/video "proves"(!) how far the module already is, as someone is already flying it and having fun, and they do not... So the same shit-storm as with any update arises, again, spirals out of control. Moderators clean the forums, dish out warnings. The devs go silent and stop issuing info. After a while there is the next "Why the secrecy?" or "Where is my update on XYZ?" posts come up. We discuss previous shit-storms, devs carefully start issuing monthly/weekly updates. Information leads to assumptions, dates get missed and the rants start... Rinse and repeat. I don't like it either, but there seems to be an unstoppable pattern of events. :dunno: I hope that is not why they don't show previews. I'd like to think adults are developing these modules and if the models/textures etc are actually correct then surely they have the maturity to be able to brush off negative comments, since they aren't actually true. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cockpit Spectator Mode

Well, considering there are plenty of people in other fields that don't always take criticism well, you can't really blame game devs for being victims of the same human frailties. Also, frequently, the complaints around here are very subjective in nature which removes the possibility of telling the complaining party that they are wrong (not that some around here don't try). There is a part of me that thinks 'If you can't stand the heat then get out of the kitchen' but another part of me (the part that created/executed some original product designs) understands completely. Every human has some measure of vanity, whether it be about themselves, their car, their work, or something else, it exists. streakeagle Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Don't tell me anything until a release date is certain. My best experiences in DCS World have been with Belsimtek. Both the UH-1H and F-86F were unexpected surprises that were released very shortly after their announcement and the initial "beta" releases were rapidly patched up to a decent working module. These two releases were also balanced by the subsequent releases of the opposing side's equivalent: the Mi-8 and MiG-15bis. On the other hand, Belsimtek takes a lot of time to iron out the last few bugs or complete the promised feature list. But all of their modules are my favorites despite any lingering bugs.
