skarden Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 G'day gents, I've recently jumped into flying DCS with a cv1 and like most here I'm finding it super hard to go back to flying in 2d again, it's really just no comparison, the feeling of being in those cockpits is unmatched by a 2d screen at any resolution. Of course now I'm running onto the problem of target spotting, I'm running the pixel density at 1.6 and the cockpit looks great and there's no real problem reading gauges but I'm having trouble spotting targets until I'm right on top of em. I find the normal labels to be too obvious so I'm wondering if anyone here has developed their own custom labels for VR? I'd love to get my hands on them so i can jump into some of the campaigns and have a ball off line. Alternatively if anyone could direct me to a guide where i can develop my own that would also be great. I'm still playing online with the screen at the moment as it's a huge disadvantage to do it in vr, well except for the helicopters, i can still be quit effective in those. Is anyone else having this problem and have any solution that maybe I haven't thought of, any suggestions would be super appropriated. Thanks! majapahit Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 not sure but there is an entry in server.lua that defines min/max Zoom ..\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View\Server.lua (installs from ..\DCS\Config\View\Server.lua ?) @ line #7: local GlobalCameraViewAngleLimits = {30,150} -- {min horiz. FOV in °, max horiz. FOV in °} <- aka Zoom so changing {30,150} to f.i. {5,150} gives you more zoom IN (I might be imagining things, but it seems to work :) ) which would give your better spotting? | VR goggles | Autopilot panel | Headtracker | TM HOTAS | G920 HOTAS | MS FFB 2 | Throttle Quadrants | 8600K | GTX 1080 | 64GB RAM| Win 10 x64 | Voicerecognition | 50" UHD TV monitor | 40" 1080p TV monitor | 2x 24" 1080p side monitors | 24" 1080p touchscreen |
skarden Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Thanks for the reply mate, I try not to use the zoom too much, it makes me queasy and I find it quite disorienting, that said if there's no other option I'll have to get used to it but i thought that maybe some sort of modified labels may be a better way to go. Maybe make them black or dark grey and keep them as dots or something subtle like that. JG4_Sputnik Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 +1 labels should be customizable both in color and size. I think they are way too big and too much information. Red dot for example would be cool...
Macka Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 (edited) Attached is my modified labels. I have it set to dots but the distances are adjusted so its not too easy. It is JSGME compatible so just unzip and drop into your JSGME mods folder. If you wish to insert manually you can unzip then just open and copy the Labels.lua and drop it into your DCS install in whatever drive ie mine is : F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config\View. Recommend using JSGME otherwise it will be overwritten on every update. So always remove mod before DCS update and re enable after update. It only takes a couple of seconds to remove. I have set the colors to red and blue. The ground targets appear as you approach at 16km and disappear at 3.4 km where you should be able to see the targets without labels in VR for the run in. Aircraft are set from 5-15km Naval at 20-40km You can open the Labels.lua and edit your own distances if you prefer Here is the Thread on JSGME for modding file etc. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607 Here is a newer GME for modding https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=171956Labels dot.zip Edited September 22, 2016 by Macka 1 There we were....two against a thousand.....so what'd we do....Shotem' both!!!! DerekSpeare Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I'd like to see labels that scale in size from small for distant objects to normal size (default) when you're within X distance from the labeled object. Macka Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 @DerekSpeare, yes that would be ideal. I used to use a grey color whicht would blend in and not make it too gamey but just enough to spot targets at range. The best you could do at the moment is change the letters or characters to bigger or smaller or multiple letters or colors. For instance just a dot at 20 km ....then to an X as it gets closer then multiple XXX or OOO etc There we were....two against a thousand.....so what'd we do....Shotem' both!!!!
